HEINRICH PETERSEN, OF OBERJERSDAL, GERMANY.
HEADWSCREEN.
SEECIFIUATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 640,412, dated January 2, 1900.
Application filed June 2, 1899. Serial No. 719,133. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom zit r11/ay concern.-
Be it known that I, HEINRICH PETERSEN, a subject of the King of Prussia, Emperor of Germany,residin at bcrjersdal,in the Kingdom of Prussia and German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Masks for Protecting the Face and Head from Insects and the Like, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in masks for protecting the face and head against insects; and the object of my improvement is to construct a mask, first, of light weight secondly, so as to be held of itself on the head of the user, and, thirdly, to enable the easy putting on or takin g off of the same, for which purpose it is so made that no cord, band, or buckle is necessary, as in the masks hitherto constructed.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating my invention, lFigure l is a general view 0f the mask in use; Fig. 2, a side elevation of the mask alone; Fig. 3, a View of the interior of the maskg and Fig. et an elevation of the lower part of the mask, showing the bows attached to the lower band thereof.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
As willbe seen from the drawings, the gauze a is carried and stretched by three bows h, which are preferably made of wire covered by thread or the like and the ends of which are secured by elastic bands (Z of metal or other material possessing sufficient rigidity. To these bands d and the edge of the entire gaurie alight fabric cis attached, and a cord e of rubber or other suitable material is drawn through this fabric between the bands d. Vhereas the Wire bows ZJ have the tendency to keep the mask in shape, the cord e, drawn through the fabric c at the sides, pulls thc bands together. When the mask is put on, this mutual action of the parts will cause it to sit easily on the head, and the putting on or removal of the mask is effected by simply pulling it over or off from the head.
Vhat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
As a new article of manufacture a mask for the face and head comprising a piece of gauze to overlie the face, bows extending along the gauze, bands d secured to said bows, fabric secured to the bands and also to the gauze, and elastics secured to the fabric between the bands d, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses;
HEINRICH PE'IERSEN.
