To all whom, it may concern:

Be it known that 1, ROBERT CHARLES DICK- ERMAN, a citizen of the United States, re'siding at New Haven,inthe county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mucilage-Bottles, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to mucilage-bottles 5 and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which is provided with a detachable supplemental neck which is of novel construction and which is provided with means for removing the surplus mucilage from the brush, a furtherobject being to provide a mucilage-bottle with a detachable neck, whereby when the latter becomes clogged with dry mucilage it may be removed or cleaned without injury to the bottle.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which- Figure 1 is a central vertical section of my improved bottle, and Fig. 2 a transverse section on line 2 2 of Fig. 1.

In the drawings forming part of this specification the separate parts of my improvement are designated by the same numerals of reference in each ofthe views, and in the practice of my invention I provide a bottle 5, which may be of the usual or any preferred form and which is provided with a neck 6. Formed on the neck 6, on the opposite sides thereof, are outwardly-directed lugs or projections 7, and I also provide a detachable supplemental neck 8, which is adapted to fit in the neck 6 of the bottle, and the lower end of which is contracted, as shown at 9, and the upper end of which is provided with an outwardly and downwardly directed rim or flange 10,which extends downwardly nearly to the bottom of the neck of the bottle and on the outside thereof. Formed in the opposite inner walls of the flange or rim 10 are vertical slots or grooves 12, which communicate with a circular groove 13, which extends entirely around said flange or rim in the inner wall thereof, and in placing the supplemental neck in position it is passed downwardly into the neck of the bottle, and the lugs or projections 7 enter the vertical slot-s or grooves 12, and the supplemental neck is then turned so that said lugs or projections will enter the circular groove 13 and lock the supplemental neck in placel The supplemental neck is provided centrally thereof with a transverse rod 14, which is. secured therein in any desired manner; and I also providea cap or cover 15, the center of which projects upwardly and is circular in form, as shown at 16, and the lower portion of which is provided with an outwardly and downwardly directed flange or rim 17,

which is adapted to rest upon and inclose the upper portion of thesupplemental neck and the flange or rim 1O thereon. The upwardlydirected portion 16 of the cap or cover is adapted to receive the upper end of the handle 18 of the brush, the brush being shown at 19, and whenever it is desired to use the mucilage the cap or cover is removed and the brush is manipulated in the usual manner, and in removing the brush from the bottle it is wiped on the rod 14 and the surplus mucilage is removed therefrom. The surplus mucilagedrops down into the bottle; but if at any time the supplemental neck should become clogged by reason of mucilage coming in contact therein and drying thereon said supplemental neck may be removed and cleaned, as will be readily understood, and without danger of breaking the bottle or the neck thereof.

This device is simple in construction and operation and is perfectly adapted to accomplish the result for which it is intended.

Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 4 1. A mucilage-bottle, provided with a neck, on the outer sides of which are formed lugs or projections a supplemental detachable neck adapted to be inserted within the neck of the bottle, and which is provided with-an outwardly and downwardly projected flange or rim which incloses the neck of the bottle, said flange or rim being provided at its lower edge with vertical slots or grooves,which are adapted to receive said lugs or projections, and with a circular groove which communicates with said vertical slots or grooves, and said supplemental neck being also provided with a cross-rod, and a detachable cap or cover, the central portion of which projects upwardly and is adapted to receive the upper end of the handle of a brush, substantially as shown and described.

As an improved article of manufacture, a mucilage-bottle, the same comprising a bottle 5, neck 6 having lugs or projections 7, a supplemental neck 8 adapted to fit in the neck 6, and the lower end of which is contracted and the upper end thereof being provided with a rim or flange 10 having vertical slots or grooves 12, which communicate with the circular groove 13 extending around said flange or rim, said supplemental neck being provided centrally with a transverse rod 14. and a ROBERT CHARLES DIOKERMAN.
