SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 587,423, dated August 3, 1897.

Application filed November 7, 1896. Serial No. 611,350- (No model.)

To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that LEDWARD A.BONDURANT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lynchburg, in the county of Campbell and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such, as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to toys.

My object is to provide a more simple and cheap toy of novel and improved construction which will be attractive in appearance and amusing in operation.

Having this object in View, my invention consists of a rotary wheel of improved construction, a frame in which said wheel is journaled, and a blow tube or pipe through which air can be directed against the wheel to set it in operation.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved toy, and Fig. 2 a sectional side elevation.

The numeral 1 designates a substantially U -shaped frame, and 2 represents a blow pipe or tube which is provided with an upwardlyextending portion which passes through the bottom of the frame and thereabove, as at 3.

The numeral 4 designates a fixed spindle which has its ends secured in the arms of the frame.

My improved wind-Wheel is shown at 5. At each end of this wheel there are located a large disk 6 and a smaller disk 7, said disks being loosely journaled on the spindle.

The numerals 8 designate a series of strips of paper of different shades, said strips extending from one set of disks to the other and having their ends pasted down between the disks of the respective sets. Strips 9, of colored paper, extend around the cross-strips, being pasted thereto,

The numerals l0 designate a series of paper strips which are pasted to the respective strips 8 and have upwardly-bent portions 11, that constitute blades. These strips 10 are preferably of the same color as the respective strips 8.

When the operator blows through the pipe or tube, the breath is directed against the blades or vanes and the wheel set in rapid rotation, presenting a pleasing appearance to the eye.

It is not absolutely necessary that a cylindrical wheel be employed, as the wheel can be made in many other shapes, as square, hexagonal, octagonal, star-shaped, &c.

There are many slight and immaterial changes that might be resorted to in constructing the different parts of the device without detracting from any of its advantages, and hence I am to be understood as considering myself entitled to all such varied constructions as properly come within the spirit and scope of the invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- I 1. In a toy, the combination with a wheel comprising end pieces, strips of different colors connecting the end pieces, and blades or vanes of different colors connected to the strips, of a blow pipe or tube whereby a current of air may be directed against the blades of the wheel.

2. The herein-described toy comprising a wheel consisting of sets of end disks, crossstrips connected to said end disks, different colored strips passing around the cross-strips and connected thereto, and a series of blades or vanes connected to the cross-strips, and a blow pipe or tube whereby a current of air may be directed against the vanes of the wheel.

3. The herein-described toy comprising a frame and blow pipeor tube connected to said frame and a rotary wheel journaled to the frame, which wheel consists of sets of end disks, cross-strips extending from one set of disks to the other and having their ends se cured between the disks, constituting a set, strips connected to the cross-strips, and blades or vanes connected to an annular strip and adapted to receive the air issuing from the blowpipe.
