UNITED STATES PATENT O F CEQ LOUIS B. BRONSON AND JOHN PARMENTER, OF BELVIDERE, ILLINOIS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 587,386, dated August 3, 1897.
Application filed January 9, 1897. Serial No. 618,551. (No model.)
T0 at whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, LOUIS B. BRONSON and J OHN PARMENTER, citizens of the United States, residing at Belvidere, in the county of Boone and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Belts; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. 7
This invention relates to improvements in belts, and has more particular relation to belts intended for the support of purses, Satchels, and the-like.
The invention consists of certain novel constructions, all of which will be hereinafter more particularly set forth and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 represents our invention in use by a lady, and Fig. 2 represents a top plan View of our said improvement.
'A in the drawings represents the belt, and B the purse. This belt A comprises a belt proper, a, composed of any suitable pivoted and ornamental links. One end of said belt is provided with a buckle-plate a and the opposite end with a hook a adapted to be secured to the rear of said plate. This plate is also provided with a plurality of apertures a through which the upper ends of the pendent rods a are hooked, so that said rods may be turned up in front of the wearer when so desired or permitted to drop into a pendent position. The lower ends of said rods are pivotally connected with the top bar I) of the purse or satchel, which may be of any desirable construction.
It will be observed from the foregoing description that when this belt is applied about the waist of the wearer and the purse suspended from the armsa it is impossible for the purse to be mislaid or lost or stolen, as it is positively connected to the belt by metallic connection. At the same time that the purse is so protected it may be readily raised when so desired to remove any portion of its contents because of the'pivotal connection of the bars a with the plate a. This device is ornamental as well as useful, as the purse or satchel when suspended. therefrom hangs naturally in the position it would occupy if suspended from an ordinary belt in the usual manner. The purse is also so located that it is always convenient to the grasp of the hand and may be instantly raised and opened when so desired, but cannot be snatched or torn from the belt except by the employment of great force.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination with a belt composed of a plurality of metallic links, of a buckle for securing said belt about the wearers waist, two pendent rods having their upper ends pivotally mounted on the buckle-plate, and a purse pivotally secured to the lower ends of said arms so as to be held in a horizontal position, substantially as described.
2. The combination with a belt, of a buckle for securing the same about the wearers waist, two pendent rods having their upper ends pivotally mounted on the buckle-plate and a purse pivotally secured to the lower-ends of said arms so as to be held normally in a horizontal position, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof we have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
