v UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN S. BATCHELDER, OF NEIVTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
DOOR-SECURER SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 583,108, dated May 25, 1897.
Application filed August 19, 1896. Serial No. 603,217. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J OHN S. BATOHELDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newton Upper Falls, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window and Door Securers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The special object of the invention is to make a securer which will be applicable to a door or window and will not mar or deface the casing of either.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a sectional elevation showing the device applied to a window; Fig. 2, asimilar view showing it applied to a door; Fig. 3, a perspective view of the securer with the body turned at right angles to the stop-blade; Fig. 4., a plan view of hinged plate with yoke; and Fig. 5, a side elevation of the nut, showing the circular rib or collar which goes between the yoke and plate.
In the drawings, A represents the grooved body of the securer, and B the rear'end plate to which it is hinged.
O is a thumb-nut which is swiveled by a collar between the outer side of the plate B and a yoke D, the latter being fast to said plate and fitting into a groove around the nut. The nut works on a screw E of the blade F to move back and forth said blade with its stop f, so as to clamp the two sashes together, as shown in Fig. l of the drawings, or fasten the door, as shown in Fig. 2. I use a rubber or other soft facing on the working faces of the stops a, a, and f, so that the woodwork of the door or window cannot be marred or defaced.
As shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings, the device is ready for application to a door or window, the stop-blade F being firstarranged in place and the body then swung so as to embrace the blade in its groove. The thumbnut is then turned on the screw of blade until the door is clamped to its casing or the sashes securely fastened together so that neither can be moved.
Having thus described all that is necessary to a full understanding of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-
In door and window securers, the end plate B, the body A hinged thereto, the yoke D made fast to said plate and the swiveled nut 0 having a groove for said yoke, all combined as shown with the blade having stops at one end and a thread at the other, for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN S. BATOHELDER.
