Description

Nrrnn Stans ROBERT WV. SCHUTZ, OF CANTON, OHIO.
DOOR-SECURER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 652,046, dated J une 19, 1900.
Application filed April 30, 1900.
T0 all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT W. SCHUTZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Securers; and I do hereby declare' that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the gures of reference marked thereon, in which Figure l is a view showing the device applied to use. Fig. 2 is a view showing the lock-bar turned at an angle to the connecting plate or bar. Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the securer detached.
The present invention has relation to doorsecurers and it consists in the different parts and combination of parts hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
In the accompanying drawings, l represents the attaching-plate, which is substantially of the form shown, and, as shown, it is provided at one end with the right-angled teeth 2, said teeth being located substantially as shown and are for the purpose of connecting .the plate to the door-casing substantially as illustrated in Fig. l. To the plate l is securely attached the screw-threaded stud 3, and upon which screw-threaded stud is located the nut 4, which nut is preferably formed as illustrated in the drawings. The stud 3 is located through the elongated slot 5, which elongated slot is formed in the tapered or wedge-shaped lock-bar 6, which lock-bar is provided with the right-angled flange 7. The lock-bar 6 is formed wedge-shaped longitudinally and is so formed for the purpose hereinafter described.
In use the plate lis connected as illustrated in Fig. 1, after which the lock-bar 6 is placed in the position illustrated in said Fig. l, and when the right-angled ange 7 is brought against the face of the door 8 the nut 4 is turned, so as to clamp the lock-bar 6 between the inner face of the nut 4 andthe face of the plate l.
It will be understood that by providing the Serial No. 14,803. (No model.)
Wedgeshaped lock-bar 6 that should the nut 4 become loosened upon the stud 3 said lockbar will be held against longitudinal movement by reason of the increased thickness of said lock-bar toward the liange 7, thereby pro`V vidin g a means for securely holding said lockbar at any point within the limits of its longitudinal movement.
It will be understood that should the nut 4 become slightly loosened the least longitudinal movement of the lock-bar 6 in the direction away from the door will be bound between the nut and the plate, thereby preventing any longitudinal movement of sufficient distance to open the door.
For the purpose of providing a means for handling the attaching-plate l the lock-bar G is pivotally connected to said plate, by Which arrangement it may be turned at an angle orl brought into true alinement with said plate at the time said plate is connected, and after the plate is properly connected the door can be closed, when the lock-bar is at an angle or is turned entirely backward, after which said lockbar can be brought parallel with the plate and the angled portion brought against the face of the door and the nut tightened upon the lock-bar 6.
It will be understood that by providing the teeth 2 the bar 1 may be held against longitudinal movement when the teeth are seated into the door-casing- Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a door-securer the combination of the plate 1 having right-angled teeth at one end thereof, a screw-threaded stud xed to the opposite end of the plate and provided with a nut, a lock-bar pivoted to the plate and provided with a longitudinal slot, said lock-bar provided with a right-angled portion and ta pered from the right-angled portion toward its opposite end, all arranged, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence
