Description

No. 67|,92I. Patented Apr. 9, |90I.
A. J. MCGEHEE.
SASH LOCK.
(Application filed Iec. 10, 1900.,

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ABN ER JUDSON MCGEHEE, OF JACKSON, TENNESSEE, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF T0 WILLIAM M. MOSS, OF SAME PLACE.
SASH-LOCK.
SPECIFICATION forming' part 0f Letters Patent N 0. 671,921, dated April 9, 1901.
Application filed December 10l 1900. Serial No. 39,287. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ABNER J UDsoN MOGE- HEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jackson, in the county of Madison and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash-Locks, of which the following is a specication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and eifective lock which will secure both window-sashes in any desired position, preventing them from being raised -or lowered from the outside and also holding them tightly in the frame, so that they will not rattle.
The invention consists of the novel details of construction and arrangement of the parts, as hereinafter fully described and claimed.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, similar characters of reference indicating, correspending parts in all the views, Figure 1 is a horizontal section through the window-frame at the meeting-rails of the sash. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the complete lock and its key. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the clamping-rod. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the double-threaded rotating sleeve and clamp. Fig. 5 is the key adapted to engage the sleeve.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the lower sash; B, the upper sash; C C', the inner and outer facings of the frame; D D', the inner and outer stop-beads; E, the partingstrip, and F the window-jamie. The lock is located in a recess in the jamb of the window in such a manner that the angled end l of rod G rests against the outside of the top sash and the clamp I against the inner side of the bottom sash, as shown in Fig. 1.
The rod G has one end extended at right angles to form the clamp I, and the other end has the right-hand threads 2. Sleeve H is fitted to rotate in the jamb of the window and has the right-hand threads 3 on its inside to engage the rod G and the left-hand threads on its outside to engage the clamp I, which has left-hand threads in its aperture, and its end 5 is provided with a square or angular hand threads 4, and the two sashes are thus clamped firmly against the parting stop E and are firmly held against any effort to move them in any direction. When the sleeve is turned to the left, the clamps quickly recede from the sash and allow them to move freely in the frame.
The key J has a long square or angular stem 6 iitted to the square or angular aperture 5 in the sleeve H, so that it will t up close to the window-facing when not in use, and may be drawn outward, so as to be easily gripped in the hand, when it is desired to operate the lock.
This lock may be easily adjusted to any thickness of sash or frame by screwing the sleeve H on or off of the rod G and the clamp I back and forth on the sleeve.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desi-re to secure by Letters Patent- A sash-lock comprising a rod angled at one end to form a clamp and threaded at the other end at such length as to enable it to be screwed some distance in or out of the sleeve, in order to adjust the length of the lock to the distance from the outside of the top sash to the inside of the window-facing, a tubular sleeve having threads on its inside reversehanded from the threads on its outside, a threaded clamp mounted on said sleeve, and a key having an angular stem inserted into an angular aperture in the end of said sleeve, all substantially as and for the purposes specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto affixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
ABNER JUDSON MOGEHEE.
