' MEMORY RING.
Patented Apr, 27, 1897.
V hereby declare the following to be a full, clear,
. detached. Fig. 4=is a similar view of the outer .appertains to make and use the same.
UNITED STATES JOHN ADAM GOETZ, OF BROOKLYN, NEWV YORK.
MEMORY-RING.
SPECIFICATIOLI forming part of Letters Patent No. 581,549, dated April '27, 1897.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN ADAM Gon'rz, a citizen of the United States, residin g at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Memory-Rings; and I do and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in' the art to which it My invention relates to improvements in finger-rings, the object of the same being to produce whatI term a memory-ring, to assist the wearer thereof to remember certain things that he may have to do or certain places that he may have to go.
The invent-ion consists of a plurality of rings of equal size, each having a series of letters stamped on its outer edge, the same being adapted to fit within a ring of larger diameter and be held thereto by frictional contact. The innerrings are provided with gs or projections for-turning them to bring me of the letters thereon into View.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents an elevation of my memory-ring with all the parts assembled. Fig. 2 is a cross-section through the same; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the inner rings ring detached.
Like reference-numerals indicate like parts in the'difierent views.
Myimproved memory-ringis made up of a plurality of narrow rings or bands 1 1, each having stamped upon its outer periphery a series of letters'2, as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 3. These rings or bands 1 are also formed with projections 3 3 thereon, by means of which they may be turned, as hereinafter described. The rings 1 are inclosed by an outer band or-ring 4, which is as wide as the combined width of the rings 1 and is formed with a narrow connecting-strip 5, as shown. The rings or bands 1 are held within the band 4 by frictional contact, the same being adapted to be turned by means of the pins or projections 3 thereon.
In using my device set the inner rings 1 so that one letter on each ring will project between the ends of the band 4, the letters seleote d being the initial letter of some errand that is to be performed, some purchase that is to be made, or any other thing that the wearer may desire to be reminded of.
For
example, if an order for groceries has to be 1 given and the doctor is to be called the letter G, standing for grocer, and the letter D, standing for doctor, will be brought so that they will be seen through the space between the ends of the band 4.
The ring may be made of gold, silver, or other suitable metal, and as many of the inner bands 1 may be employed as desired.
It should be stated that the letters on the bands 1 may be those of any language, and that the said bands may be further provided with blanks which will be brought to view between the ends of the band 4 when there is nothing that the wearer is to be reminded of.
What Iclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The herein-described memory-ring, made up of an outer band the ends of which are connected by a narrow strip forming open spaces on each side thereof, and a plurality of inner bands in frictional contact therewith, each of said inner bands having a series of letters upon its outer periphery, one letter ing witnesses,
