Description

parte com,
nE-NnrHEBBAR'D, or NEW YORI ,'1-I.Y.l
Letters man: No. 93,4%, dated August 1o, 1869.
IMPRovnMEN'r IN FINGER-GUARD Fn aonnmewno'r come The Schedule referred to in these Letten'Patent and making part of lame.
To all whomt't may concern Be it known that I, HEBY Heimann, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful articles-of manufacture, which I have designated as Finger-Guards for Holding -Ears of Boiled Corn, while eating the same; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full description of the same. The object of my invention is to promotethe comfort of eatingsweetcorn from oi the ear o'r cob; and
The natiue of my invention consists in the new 4manufacture of finger-guard plates, with suitable prongs on their inner faces, for inserting into' the pith of the opposite ends of the cob, so that the same may be iirmly held between the guards, whilel being rotated, and denuded of the corn, during the process of mastication.
But, to describe myinvention more particularly, I will refer to the\accompanyig drawings, formingl'a part of this specification, the same letters off-reference, wherever they occur, referring to like parts. y.
Figure 1 is a representation of a setof the finger guards, as linked together by a chain.
Figure2 is a representation of a set, as joined together 'by two extension sliding hars or links.
Letter A represents the handle ofthe guard B, and C, the prongs on the inner faces, for inserting into the pith of the opposite ends of the cob D.
As two nger-guards are necessary to hold the ear of corn, or form what Iis called a set, it is proposed to link them together by a'chaiu, D, "as shown lung. 1,' to prevent either of them getting lost or, by joining them together by two long extension or sliding links Aor bars, E, as shown in fig. 2, for the same purpose.
v It will be obvious that neither of these devices for preventing the separation of the set` of finger-guards, is materialto the operation or utility of my new man,-
lufzwture', and, therefore, I" do not deem it material as to how the finger-guards are .linked tdgether to form the set, as my invention is not for the method of link ing or connecting' them together, but for the new' .manufacture of the finger-guards, irrespective of any particular way they are joined together to form sets.
It will be obvious that the finger-guards may be made of anykinds of metal, or other material, suitable for such purposes.
Having now described my new article of manufacture, I willgproceed to set forth what is claimed, and
desired to be secured hy Letters Patent of the United-` States.
I claim, as my invention, the shield or guards B, with the handle A endpoints 0, constructed substantially as shown and described, for the purpse of hold-
