Description
Nov. 16, 1948. J. l.. YOUNGHUSBAND REMEMBRANCER Filed June 5, 194'7 lllll Patented Nov. 16, 1948 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE REMEMBRANCER James Leslie Younghusband, Chicago, Ill.
Application June 5, 1947, Serial No. '752,786
2 claims. (o1. (s3-15) 1 My invention relates to a ring having means for reminding the wearer of a resolution.
It often happens that a person who enjoys a drink of intoxicating liquor tends to forget the number of drinks he takes in the excitement of kindred company or a celebration, and before he realizes it he has become intoxicated. If the same person had some pleasant, attractive, yet silent and unobtrusive remainder of the number of drinks he was taking at the time, he would l know when to stop and would voluntarily do so. Such a remembrancer is the object of this invention.
While my reminding means is designed primarily to solve the foregoing problem yet it may be i; used for other purposes and to solve other problems and has such other objects, advantages and capabilities as will later more fully appear and which are inherently possessed by -my invention.
While I have shown in the accompanying drawings a preferred embodiment of my invention, yet 1 wish it understood that the same is susceptible of modication and change without departing from the spirit of my invention- Referring to the drawings, Fig. 1 is a side view 25 of a ring embodying my invention with the jewels covered; Fig. 2 is a detailed sectional view of the same; Fig. 3 is a side view of the ring with' the jewels exposed; Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the ring with the jewels exposed; Fig. 5 is a detailed 3o sectional View on line 5-5 of Fig. 2 and Fig. 6 is a detailed sectional view on line 6-6 of Fig. 2.
The preferred embodiment selected to illuseXpOse rst the end white Stone, then SUCCES- trate my invention comprises a ring l0 having sively in order two white stones, three white set therein nve spaced stones. The first three of Stones, three White Stones and the green stone these stones II, I2 and I3 are white in color and and finally three White Stones the green Stone preferably diamonds, The fourth' stone i4 js and the red stone, said cover adapted to be moved green in Color and preferably an emerald, The by the user in the opposite direction to cover all fth stone I5 is red in color and preferably a 0f the Said flVe Stones, Said COVeI having anged ruby. 40 portions engaging opposite sides of the ring, said A cover I6 of sufficient size to cover said stones Cover having a plurality 0f spaced Openings t0 aid is slidably mounted on said ring I0, and is adapt- 'he user' in moving Said Cover.
had enough drinking for the night. While he is still sober he has been quietly warned without embarrassment and takes no further drinks.
My device may vary with the body member in other forms than that of a ring. Other indicia may be used in place of the stones. Such indicia need not be limited to five in number, so th'at any appropriate number may be used.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. A remembrancer comprising a ring, five spaced stones mounted in `said ring, a cover slidably mounted on said ring, said cover adapted to normally cover said stones, the stone on one end being white and followed by two white stones, one green stone and one red stone, the stone on the opposite end being red, said cover adapted to be manually moved by the user in one direction to expose rst the end white stone, then successively in order two white stones, three white stones, three white stones and the green stone and rnally three white stones, the green stone and the red stone, said cover adapted to be moved by the user in the opposite direction to cover all of the said five stones.
2. A remembrancer comprising a ring, five spaced stones mounted in said ring, a `cover slidably mounted on said ring, said cover adapted to normally cover said stones, th'e stone on one end being white and followed by two white stones, one green stone and one red stone, the stone on the opposite end being red, said cover adapted to be ed to be moved to expose one or more of said stones, Spaced holes I1 are provided to aid in JAMES LESLIE YOUNGHUSBAND- moving the cover I6.
My cover may be stopped ai; any point after REFERENCES CITED it has been manually moved by the user and will The following references are of record in the remain in position due lso friction grip with the file of this patent: ring, or any other suita le s op expedient.
