WATER-BOTTLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 579,867, dated March 30, 1897. Application filed November 10, 1896. Serial No. 611,617. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it 7920, concern.-
as will enable those skilled in the art to which.
it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to water-bottles and similar vessels, the object thereof being to provide an improved device of this class which consists of a plurality of parts, said parts being detachably connected and adapted to be separated whenever desired for cleaning and other purposes.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which Figure 1 is a central vertical section of the upper part of my improved bottle or Vessel, and Fig. 2 a similar view showing the separate parts disconnected.
In the practice of my invention I provide a bottle or vessel for the purpose herein specified which consists of a base or body portion 5, which is preferably of the usual form, but which may be of any desired shape and which is provided witha large central circular opening in the top thereof, as shown at 6, and around which is formed an upwardly-directed neck or arm 7, which is triangular in crosssection, the walls thereof being inclined inwardly and upwardly, and formed around the base of said neck or arm is an annular bead 8, and between the annular bead 8 and the base of the neck or arm is a packing-ring 9, composed of rubber or similar material. I also provide a detachable neck 10, which is preferably of the form shown, the base thereof being much greater in diameter than the upper end and the upper end being greater in diameter than the central portion, and said neck is provided at its lower end with an outwardly -directed annular flange 11, above which is an annular shoulder 12, and below the annular flange 11 is an inwardly and downwardly directed annular rim 13, at the bottom of which is an outwardly-directed annular flange 14, and placed between the flanges 11 and 14 is a packing-ring 15, composed of rubber or similar material.
In practice I connect the neck 10 with the body or base portion 5 by means of the annular coupling ring or band 16, which is pro vided at its upper side with an inwardly-directed conical flange or rim 1?, and formed on the outer upper portion of the ring or band 16 at the base of the conical flange is an a11- nular bead or shoulder 18, which is circular in cross-section and below which is an outwardly-directed flange 19. v
The neck or arm 7 of the body or base portion 5 of the bottle or vessel is provided on its outside sides with inclined shoulders or projections 20, one of which is shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2, and the ring or band 16 is provided on its inner surfaces with corresponding inclined shoulders or projections 21, one of which is shown in full lines in Fig. 2, and in connecting the separate parts the upper end of the neck 10 is inserted upwardly through the ring or band l6,and said ring or band is then connected with the neck or rim 7 of the bottom or base 5 by placing it thereon so that the inclined shoulders or projections 21 will pass downwardly between the shoulders or projections 20, and then by turning said ring or band to the right the parts will be securely locked together and will assume the position shown in Fig. 1.
The coupling between the separate parts is made perfectly secure and water-tight by the packing-ring 15, which is formed as shown in Fig. 1, and the packing-ring 9 facilitates the coupling of the separate parts and also aids in preventing the breaking thereof when they are screwed together if said parts be made of glass or similar material.
My inventionis not limited to the material 0 of which the bottle or vessel is made, and any desired material may be employed, such as chinaware, glass ware, or other forms of earthenware or metal, or a combination of metals may be employed, and in the latter event 5 care should be taken to select such metals as will not corrode or be injuriously aifected by fluids or acids.
It will thus be seen that I accomplish the object of my invention by means of a simple we and effective construction, and it is evident that changes in and modifications of the construction herein described may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In combination'the body, having a flange or rim and a packing-seat and packing, said flange having a beveled inner face, the neck having a correspondin gl y-beveled flange at its lower end, a packing-ring seated in a groove in said flange, a ring resting against the packing on the body portion and having an inwardly-projecting flange engaging the lower portion of the neck, and means for conneeting the ring to the body portion comprising inclined lugs or projections upon one part engaging similar lugs or projections upon the other part, substantially as described.
2. In combination the body portion having a flange or rim, the flaring neck abutting against said flange, and the rotatable ring having an annular flange overlapping the flaring lower portion of the neck and having a detachable connection with the body portion, substantially as described.
3. In combination the body portion having a flange or rim with a beveled inner face, the neck having a flaring lower end provided with a beveled flange abutting against the flange of the body portion, the rotatable ring having an annular flange overlapping the lower edge of the neck, and inclines detachabl y conneetin the ring with the body portion, substantially as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
