SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 664,472, dated December 25, 1900.
Application filed February 7, 1900. Serial No. 4,335. (No model-l of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Water-Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
The present'invention is in the nature of some specific improvements in the line of the invention shown and claimed in my Patent No. 579,867, dated March 30, 1897. l
The improvements consist, essentially, in a new and useful coupling device between the neck and the bottle proper and also in a novel ice-receptacle to be used in connection with These and other novel features embraced in the clauses of the claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a sectional view of the invention. Fig. 2 is a horizontal cross-section through line a: m, Fig. 1.

A represents the body portion of the bottle opening A and an annular rim'B, surrounding said opening. The inner side or surface of this rim is made inclined in an inward direction for the purpose hereinafter mentioned.
0 represents the neck of the bottle and which is detachably connected therewith and provided at its lower end with an inwardlydirected flange 0, adapted to fit inside the rim of the bottle. Interposed between this flange and the said rim is a round rubber ring D. Connecting the neck with the bottle proper is a coupling composed of a band E, having at its upper end an inwardly-tapering flange E, which engages the lower outer portion of the neck. Mounted inside this band is an' expansible ring F, having three peripheral spirally-inclined surfaces F, which engage the inner sides of the band above mentioned. This ring is further provided with three outwardly-projecting studs F which project through three slots E cut through the sides of the band.

H represents an ice-receptacle comprising a glass jar theupper end of which is provided with an outwardly-flaring rim H. The outer surface of this rim is corrugated in order to permit the free flow of water in the bottle when the jar is suspended therein.
I represents the cover for the ice-receptacle and which is provided with an inclined edge I, adapted to fit inside the rim of the jar. Interposed between the edge of the cover and the rim of the jar is a round packing-ring J, adapted to provide a tight joint for the jar.
The ice-receptacle is mounted in the bottle by having the outer corrugated edge of the jar rest on the inclined inner surface of the rim of the bottle proper. A pressure is exerted on the cover of the jar by means of a spring K, removably mounted in the neck of the bottle. and which is provided with a large central This spring is preferably made of sheet metal and is composed of a plate or disk having three upwardly-extending arms K; the end portions of which are curved in order to conveniently snap into the groove formed by the flange O in the lower end portion of the neck. The cover of the jar is preferably provided with a knob 13 for facilitating the handling of the cover. The jar may be substituted by a receptacle for filter material. The jar should then be open at its bottom and the rubber ring placed between the outer side of its rim and the rim of the bottle proper.
In attaching the neck to the bottle proper the outer ring is rotated and transmits its motion to the inner expansible ring by means of the projecting studs. The band is held stationary by the other hand. The spirallycurved surfaces of the expansible ring engage the inner sides of the band and cause the expansible ring to contract and engage the annular bead or lip situated on the outer side of the rim of the bottle proper.
