H. A. PERAUT. BOX FOR CONTAINING GUM'MED PAPER, 6:0.
No. 579,177. Patented Mar. 23, 1897.
NlTE TATE arnnr FFICEQ BOX FOR CONTAINING GUM MED PAPER, 800.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 579,177, dated March 23, 1897.
Application filed October 29,1896. Serial No. 610,420. (No model.) Patented in England May 14:, 1896, No. 10,363; in France May 15,1896,No.256,3'78,a11di11 Belgium May 15, 1896,11'0. 121,364.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that LHENRI ARMAND PERAUT, a citizen of France, residing at Paris, France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boxes for Containing Gummed or other Paper, (for which I have obtained British Letters Patent No. 10,363, dated May 1-1, 1896; French Letters Patent No. 256,378, dated May 15, 1896, and Belgian Letters Patent No.121,364, dated May 15,1896;) and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention has relation to a holder or container for a narrow fillet or strip of gummed or adhesive paper, linen, or other material adapted by being withdrawn for application as bands to bills, bank-notes, or the like for holding the same by joining meeting ends of the severed strip or fillet from the holder or repairing torn bills, bank-notes, &c.; and in such connection it relates particularly to the construction and arrangement of the container or holder and narrow strips or fillets of gummed paper or other material for said purposes among others.
The principal objects of my invention are, first, to provide a simple, durable, and effective holder for containing in cylindrical form a narrow strip or fillet of paper or other material having one surface of the same provided with gum or an adhesive substance and adapted to be readily withdrawn for forming into a band to receive and hold bank-notes or the like or the narrow fillet or strip to be employed for mending a torn bill, bank-note, &c., or as an adhesive strip for application to the skin, and, second, to provide a two-part container with a roll mounted upon an'axis, to which is revolubly secured a narrow strip or fillet of paper or other material having one surface gummed or provided with a surface adapted upon the application of moisture thereto to secure a severed portion of the strip at the meeting ends to form a band or for use as a medicated articlefor application to the skin or for repairing atorn or mutilated banknote, bill, or other article. 1
My invention, stated in general terms, consists of a two-part holder provided with a reel mounted upon an axis and so arranged as that v the reel is adapted to receive and contain and permit of the removal therefrom of a narrow strip or fillet of paper or other material provided on one surface with a coating of gum or the like, substantially as hereinafter described and claimed.
The nature and characteristic features of my invention will be more fully understood from the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, and in which- Figure 1 is a side elevational View of a twopart container or box provided with a roll having mounted thereon a narrow strip or fillet of paper or other material, the same embodying main features of my invention; and Fig. 2 is an end View of the same exposing to View the narrow strip or fillet of paper adapted to be removed from the container or box and to be applied as required either for the forming of a band as a means for repairing mutilated bills, notes, (he, or for application as a piece of court-plaster to the skin of a person.
Referring to the drawings, the box or container comprises two troughs A and 13. The latter is so arranged as to enter the former and to be locked thereto by means of a catch D, formed internally of the outer trough of the container or box and adapted to engage a complemental opening D,form ed in the trough B of the container or box. The two troughs, semicircular in form or substantially so, are pivoted to each other at a, and this pivot a forms the axis of a reel or roll 0, upon which the n arrow strip or fillet of paper 0 is mounted, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 1. The reel or roll 0 is adapted to rotate by a drawing or pulling action exerted on the end of the narrow fillet or strip of paper or other material to withdraw the same from the container or box. Preferably one surface of the narrow strip or fillet of paper or other material is coated with a gummy or adhesive substance, whereby upon the withdrawal of a portion thereof and causing the same to embrace, for
example, bank-notes, bills, or the like, a temporary holder therefor is provided as well as a means for repairing mutilated notes or the like, or the narrow strip or fillet of paper, linen, or similar material may be coated with an adhesive substance and used as a medicant in the nature of court-plaster for application to the skin.
Having thus described the nature and objects of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of two trough-like receptacles, one of which is adapted to swing within the other, a locking device, consisting of a catch formed on one trough and adapted to HENRI ARMAND PERAUT.
