To aZZ whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, JAMES PINCKNEY HAR- RISON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Danville, in the county of Pittsylvania and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stamp-Holders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

The object of this invention is to provide a superior pocket postage-stamp holder in which the stamps can be stored in compact form for carrying in the pocket or wearing on a chain without injury to the stamps by moisture or otherwise and so that they can be more easily removed and used.

To this end my invention consists in certain novel features and combinations of parts more fully described hereinafter and pointed out in the claims.

a In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a longitudinal section through the stampholding tubes, some of the other parts being shown in full lines. Fig. 2 is an end view of my device in which the ends of the tubes are removed and the tubes shown in section. Figs. 3 and 4 are perspective views of the inner and outer tubes detached, and Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the spindle and its immediate connections The letter A indicates the case, which is composed of two approximately semicylindrical shells B and C. The shelLB is placed within the shell 0, and the two shells have a relatively circumferential sliding movement to bring their open ends into coincidence or the closed portion of one opposite the open side of the other, so as to completely close the case. These shells fit sufficiently close to maintain by frictional contact of their opposing sides the relatively-adjusted position. The end portion of the inner shell projects beyond the ends of the outer shell, so as to be caught between the thumb and finger of the hand when turning the shell 0. The inner shell is closed at its ends by heads or caps G, which form bearings for the ends of the spindle D, upon which the strip E of the stamps or like articles is reeled. The end closures of the inner shell may be fixed or removable, as found most convenient. The spindle D may be of Wood, metal, or other material, Wood being preferred owing to its cheapness and lightness and because strips of stamps can be reeled thereon, and when exhausted the spindle can be thrown aside and replaced by a new one. A short strip of fabric d is attached to one side of. the spindle, so that the end of a series of stamps can be fastened thereto. The advantage of such construction is manifest where the spindle is of special construction and designed to be retained and form a part of the package. One

end of the spindle is extended and provided with a button or knob F, by means of which the spindle is operated.

When it is required to use a stamp, the shell 0 is turned on the shell B to uncover the opening in the latter, and the stamp is drawn from the roll through the opening and then moistened and applied to the letter or package in the usual manner.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is I 1. A package for stamps or similar articles, comprising approximately semicylindrical shells, concentrically disposed, the inner shell having closed ends, and a spindle journaled in the closed ends of the inner shell, and having an operating-knob and adapted to support the stamps when they are rolled thereon, substantially as described.

2. A package for stamps or similar articles, comprising approximately semicylindrical shells placed the one within the other and having a relatively circumferential sliding movement, and a spindle for supporting the stamps when the latter are rolled thereon, substantially as described.
