Description

PATENTBD MAY 5, 1908.
I.J. K0RN1K. SAMPLE HOLDER.
APPLIUATION FILED JUNE 2 8, 1.9.07.
rHDNoRRIs PnjsRs co.. wAsHlNcmN. v. c.
UNITE ISIDORE J. KORNIK, OF'MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE.
SAMPLE-HOLDER.
Application filed June 28, 1907.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that l, lsmonn J. KORNIK, citizen of the United States, residing at Memphis, in the county of Shelby and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sample-Holders, of which the following is a speciiication.
My invention relates to improvements in stock sample envelops or holders adapted to contain a sample of dress goods or other similar material, and to be placed in a bolt of Cloth between the inner fold of the same and the board on which the bolt is wound, or between two thicknesses of such cloth.
The object of my invention is the provision of a sample-holder or envelop which will be inexpensive in cost of production and eflicient for the purpose vfor which it is designed.
A further object of my invention is the providing of means securely attached to such sample-holder or envelop as will enable it to be readily withdrawn from either side of the bolt of cloth whenever it is desired to see the sample which it carries and without displacing such sample, or separating the Withdrawal means from the holder.
/Vith these objects in view my invention consists of the several details of construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating my invention Figure 1 is a plan view of the sample-holder in open position, the dotted lines 2, 2, and 3, 3, indicating the folding lines of the several parts Fig. 2 is a similar view but having the side and end flaps in folded or closed position; Fig. 3 is a sectional view showing the double thickness of the sampleholder, or envelop and the tape secured between the same; and Fig. 4 is a front view of the sample-holder or envelop when in closed condition.
1 represents the sample holder formed of two continuous blanks of stout Manila pa er, or other suitable material pasted or glue( together, and foldable on the line 2, 2 and 3, 3, thereby forming the side flaps 4, 4 and the end Hap 5.
6 is a strip of tape which is placed between the two thicknesses of paper constituting the holder and before the same are pasted or glued together and which is thus securely held in position. As shown in the drawing the ta e 6 isv of a length sufficient to cause both of its ends to extend beyond the ends of Specification of Letters Patent.

slit at the folding line of the body portion 1 and the front flap 5, whereby such end is not carried inwardly by said Hap when the same is in its folded or closed position.
A sample of cloth is placed on the face of the body portion 1 and the side flaps 4, 4, are turned inwardly on the lines 3, 3, and the lower or end iiap 5 is bent inwardly over the side flaps; the upper end portion of the body 1 is then turned downwardly over the side and end flaps, thereby completely inclosing the sample and preventing its accidental displacement. As stated the free ends of the tape 6 form a convenient and readymeans for the withdrawing of the holder from within the bolt of cloth and such projecting ends mark the location of the holder and thus save time and annoyance. As the body of the tape is tightly secured between the two thicknesses o paper or other material from which the holder is made, it cannot be torn therefrom and leave the holder within the bolt, as would be the case if the tape were tied-or attached thereto by means other than those which l have devised. A bright colored tape may be employed the projecting ends of which will assist in quickly locating the holder.
As will be seen from the drawing the front of the holder may be provided with suitable printed or written matter indicating the number of the bolt of cloth to which said sample relates, the price of same per yard, or other desired data.
Having thus described my invention what l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. IA foldable sample holder consisting of two thicknesses of paper secured together, a tape between said thicknesses and secured therein and having its ends projecting be# yond the ends thereof and one of said ends extending through a slit in the folding line at the lower end of said holder whereby to afford means for the removal of said holder from its position within a bolt of cloth.
2. A sample-holder comprising two sheets of paper glued together `and eonlining hel afford grasping ineens to withdraw it there 10 tween them tape, of a length greater than from.
said sheets, flaps foldable on the sides and In testimony whereof I aflix my signature lower end of said sheets, and a slit through in presenceof two witnesses. y
the foldin@ line of said lower end flap and through wliioh one end of said tape extends, w ISIDORE J' KORNIK whereby the two ends of the tape are caused Witnesses: to project from the sample-holder when the J. C. LEGG7 same s inserted in a holt o1 cloth and to S. H. BRITTINGHAM.
