Description

E. W. MILHADO. PACKAGE TIE.
APPLICATION FILED FEB. 1, 1908.
93 1,631 Patented Aug. 17', 1909.
rTlI l a% avwenl oz witnesses EDWARD W. MILHADO, OF MINERAL, VIRGINIA.
PACKAGE-TIE Specification of Letters Patent.
' Application filed February 1, 1908- Serial No. 413,771.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it-known that I, EDWARD IV. MlnnAno,
a citizen of; the United States, residing at Mineral, in the county of Louisa and State of Virginia, .have invented certain new and useful Improvements -in Package-Ties, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in package ties and the object is to provide a simple, .nezpensive and .readily-applic. tie for packages of letters or other articles.
With the above object in view the invention consists in the novel features of construction hereinafter fully described, particularly pointed out in the claims and clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is an end elevation of a package of letters secured by means of my improved tie; Fig. 2, a plan View of one form of my improved tie; Fi modified form, an Fig.4, a similar View of another modification.
My improved tieconsists of a tongue or inserting portion 1 formed of relatively stiff paper or other material and of any desired size. Attached at one end to this tongue or inserting portion 1 is a strip 2 of pliable paper or other material of sufiicient tensile strength forthe purpose for which it is designed, namely, of extending about the package and securel holding the letters or other articles com rlsed therein. These tiestrips 2 may be 0 difierentlen hs according to the use to which the tie 1s,to be put,
and at their free ends may be gummed as 1ndicated at 3 on one or both sides.
3, a similar view of a tongu In operation, the tongue 1 is inserted at some point in the package as shown in Fig.
1, and the tie-strip 2 passed around the'package and drawn tight, thegum on its free end being moistened and said overlapping free end united to the adjacent portion of the strip. By gumming both sides of the free end of the tie-strip, the latter may be passed around the package in either direction.
The tongue 1 may be formed wider than the tie-strip as shown-in Fig. 2 or of the same width as shown in Fig. 3, and the two parts of the tie may be united by gumming or otherwise. The tie may also be formed and sold in two separate parts as shown in Fig. I
4:, that is, a tongue or inserting portion and a tie-strip, in which case the tie-strip or the tongue would be gummed for ready attachment. In this event, a tie-strip could be selected of the proper length for the particular package to be secured, and readily united to a tongue or inserting-portion by moistening the gummed portion.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by-Letters Patent of the United States, is:
A package tie comprisin a tongue or inserting-portion of relative y still material, and a tie-strip attached at one end to the In testimony whereof I afiix my signature, in presence of two witnesses. v I
