IMPROVEMENT IN CLASPS FOR HOLDING NECK-TIES AND SHIRT-COLLARS TOGETHER. i

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 57,821, dated September 4, 1866.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES M. HYATT, of the city of Albany, State of New York, have invented a new and improved attachment to hold stocks, cravats, or neck-ties iirmly to movable shirt-collars when they are worn together; and l declare the following specification, with the drawings forming part thereof, to be afuli and complete description of my invention.

Figure 1 represents, on an enlarged scale, the attachment as seen in front; Fig. 2, as seen in profile; Fig. 8, as seen in perspective; Fig. 4, as applied to a collar, and of the size appropriate for use.

Similar letters denote the same parts ofthe apparatus.

The attachment consists of a thin piece of metal, A B, bent into the form of a spring or clip, as shown in the drawings, fitted to embrace the lower part of a shirt-collar, O, as shown in Figs. 2 and et, the front part, A, lying on the outside, and back part, B, on the inside. From the upper part of A there are projected one or more small pins, pp, to about one-eighth of an inch, their object being to enter into the inner surface of the stock, cravat, or tie, and hold it Jfrom rising up along the collar, keeping them together in a neat and comfortable manner, and preventing the unpleasant feeling, as Well as slovenly appearance, of the stock or tie rising up and exposing the collar beneath it.

I am aware that metal springs or clips have been used to hold a stock or neck-tie and collar together, but they pass behind the latter, and

in front of the former, thus being exposed to view on the outside of the stock or tie.

One object of my invention is to avoid this exposure, since my apparatus lies beneath the stock or tie. Another object is to make an attachment ot' more convenient use. In employing the clip it is necessary to fasten the collar and stock or tie in place upon the shirt and then work the clip into its positionan inconvenient operation whereas my attachment is slipped onto the collar before it is buttoned to the shirt, and then the simple act of putting on the stock, cravat, or neck-tie brings it against the points and secures it in its place.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The within-described attachment for securing the neck-tie to the collar, consisting of the clip A B and spurs p, combined and arranged substantially as set forth.
