Be it known that I, FREDERICK WILDER BATES, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Minneapolis, in the county of I-Iennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts.

This invention relates to bottles, jugs, jars, and similar vessels, and the object thereof is to provide a vessel of this class which having been once filled and sealed cannot be opened without leaving evidence of the fact, a further object being to provide a bottle or similar vessel which is provided with two necks,one of which is arranged concentrically of the other, the inner neck being adapted to be closed by a cork or stopper in the usual manner and the outer one being adapted to be closed by a non-removable tubular cap, said outer neck being adapted to be broken off when it is necessary to empty the bottle.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which theaccompanying drawings form a part, in which I have shown my invention applied to a bottle, and in which- Figure 1 is a central vertical section of the upper part of a bottle and the neck thereof provided with my improvement, and Fig. 2 a side view of the cap or cover which is adapted to be connected with the outer neck of the bottle.

In the practice of my invention I provide a bottle or other vessel 3, which is provided with a neck 4, around which is formed a supplemental neck 5, the lower end of which is larger than the upper end, as shown at 6, whereby an annular shoulder or projection 7 a is formed, and formed in the upper part of the enlarged lower part of the outer neck is an annular groove 8.

The inner neck 4 is adapted to be closed by an ordinary cork or stopper 9, and I also provide a tubular cap or cover which con sists of a tubular sleeve 10, at the upper end of which is formed an outwardly and downwardly directed flange or rim 11 and the upper end of which is closed, as shown at 12, and the tubular sleeve is provided on opposite sides with spring-tongues 13, which are out from the material thereof, and the lower end of which are bent outwardly, as shown at 14:,whereby slots or openings are formed in said sleeve.

The operation will be readily understood from the foregoing description, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the following statement thereof:

The bottle or vessel is first filled with the desired contents in the usual manner, in which the cork or stopper 9 is inserted, and the tubular sleeve 10 of the cap or cover is then passed downwardly into the outer neck 5, and in this operation the outwardly-directed projections 14: are pressed inwardly, the spring-tongues 13 yielding to permit of this operation, and when the sleeve is forced downwardly into the neck 5, so that the upper end of said neckis inclosed by the flange 11, the projections 14 will spring outwardly beneath the annular shoulder 7 and securely hold the cap or cover in place, and said cap or cover cannot be removed without breaking off the neck 5. The neck 5 is adapted to be broken off at the annular groove 8, and this may be done in any desired manner whenever it is desired to empty or open the bottle, after which the cork or stopper 9 may be removed.

This device is simple in construction and operation, and is perfectly adapted to ac complish the result for which it is intended, and does not add materially to the cost of the bottle. I

Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A bottle or other vessel, provided with two concentrically-arranged necks, the inner neck being adapted to be closed by a cork or stopper in the usual manner, and the outer one being adapted to be closedby a nonremovable cap or cover, said outer neck be- I IOO directed spring-hooks or projections, which are adapted to operate in connection therewith, substantially as shown and described.

2. Abottle or other vessel, provided with tWo concentrically-arranged necks, the inner neck being adapted to be closed by a cork or stopper in the usual manner, and the outer one being adapted to be closed by a nonremovable cap or cover, said outer neck being adapted to be broken off when it is desired to empty the bottle or vessel, and said outer neck being provided with an annular shoulder, in theinner Walls thereof, and said cap or cover being provided with outwardlydirected spring-hooks or projections, which are adapted to operate in connection therewith, and said cap or cover being composed of a tubular sleeve, in connection with which the spring-hooks or projections are formed, and being closed at its upper end, and pro vided with an annular downwardly-directed flange which is adapted to inclose the upper end of the outer neck, substantially as shown and described.
