Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEr2 JULIUS KLAMKE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN ROBES.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, JULIUs KLAMKE, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Traveling-Robes or Hand and Feet Muffs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure l represents one side of the robe or mutt', and Fig. 2 represents the opposite side thereof, each showing the pockets, respectively, for the hands and for the feet of the user 5 and Fig. 3, a section through the same.
Ordinary fur robes for traveling are troublesome to keep around or over the person, and require to be held thereto by the user, thus de- ,priving him of the free use of his hands. rlhe shape of the ordinary fur robe is very desir able, because it can be used for so many purposes that a muff or agarment cannot be used for-as, for instance, to lie upon, or for a cov' ermg.
My object is to embody in a robe of the ordinary form the advantages of a covering and protection for the feet and hands without changing the ordinary form of the robe; or, in other words, so making a robe as that it shall possess the properties of a garment, while it preserves the common robe in shape or form; and my invention consists in making upon one side ot' the robe, and in proper position thereon, pockets or receptacles for the feet, and upon the other side pockets or receptacles in proper position for the hands.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention,- I will proceed to describe the same with reference to the drawings, iirst premising that the robe may be made of the skins or fur of any animal, or of such other material as robes are or may be made of, either woven, knit, or otherwise, and
ornamented or trimmed to suit the fancy of the maker or user; and the pockets or receptacles for the hands or for the feet may be lined or trimmed, or both, with fur, cloth, or other material, having due regard to comfort and convenience, while the ornamentation may be at the fancy or taste of the maker or user.
A represents one of the robes in question. It is made of skins, and trimmed as at O and lined as at D. On the fur side there are pockets a a for the hands, and these pockets or receptacles may be open at leach of their ends, so that the hands or fingers may be protruded through or partially through them, to grasp reins, as in driving, or to hold arrnewspaper or book, and still keep the robe around the person; or the entrance to these hand pockets or receptacles may be from the opposite side of the robe and open through to the fur side; or one end of the pockets may be closed, if so preferred. On the other or lining side of the robe are pocket-s b b for the feet, which may be lined or trimmed with fur or cloth, and when the feet are inserted therein it keeps the robe in place around the legs and-feet, thus making the rohe in all respects a garment, holding itself to the person, while as a robe it is in nowise changed for all the other purposes of a robe.
Having thus fully described the nature, object, and purpose of my invention, what I claim therein as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A traveling or other robe, ot' fur or other material, having pockets or receptacles for the hands and feet, or either, as herein described and represented, so that it may be used as a garment without interfering with any or all of its uses as a robe, as set forth.
JULIUS KLAMKE.
