ing at Kingsville, in the county of J ohnson and State of lllissour, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sectional Cases 0r Boxes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art t0 which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements, as hereinafter set forth, in sectional cases or b0xes.

In the drawings, Figure 1 represents arear elevation, and Fig. 2 a front elevation, of a sectional box or case constructed according to my invention. Fig. 3 represents an enlarged detail section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 represents a similar section with the lid or a superposed section thrown back in position f01 removal. Fig. 5 represents a detail perspectve view of one of the hinge-sections.

Tl1e sectional case herein described, and shown in the drawings, while especially designed for the conveyance of eggs and other commodities wherein it is at times desired t0 readily adjust the size of the case to a varying capacity, is equally adaptable for use in other connections where it may be desirable at times to adjust the capacity and size, vertically, of a box or case.

The improved case or box may be composed of any number of sections 1, each, except the bottom one 2, which is provided With a bottom 3, being either in the form of bottomless trays 4, to receive a series of eggcontaining ce1ls or other commodity receiving and transpor'ting receptacles, (net shown,) or, as will be readily understood without illustration,

each or either of said trays may be providedwith a bottom of usual construction. At the rear of and adjacent t0 each end of each tray above the bottom section is a strap 5, removably secured thereto by screws 6, or other suitable means, each of said straps being, preferably, though not essentially, of reverse curvature, as shown, and having at its bottom portion a11 elongated eye 7 and at its upper portion a horizontal pintle 8, having an angularly-extending oflset 9, which, when the pintles on one section are engaged with the eyes of the adjacent section, whenever said connected sections are superposed the one 011 the other, or vertically parallel, contacts with the circular portions of the eyes 7, thereby locking said connected portions of the adjacent hinge-sections together and prevent-ing their being slid apart. l/Vhen, however, it is desired to either remove a section, or to place one in position 011 another section, said section is held at an angle of about forty-five degrees, which brings the angularly-extending offsets 9 inline with the lower elongated portions 10 of the eyes and permits of the said offsets loeing readily slid through said elongated portious, and consequently said section slid either int0 or out of position with the adjacent section. This construction of hinge admits, as shown, of the respective sections being turned over horizontally without removal, as said offsets always, except when brought into alinement with the elongated portions 10 of the eyes, engage with the round portions of said eyes and thereby securely hold said sections in position. The lid 11 is similarly provided with a strap having at its rear ends depending piutles provided With either angularlyextending offsets, as beforedescribedto engage with the eyed portions of the hinge-sections 01": the for the time being top case-secti0n or With eyed portions t0 engage pintles 011 said sections.

It Will be apparent that when it is desired t0 lessen the depth of the box or case by the removal of any number of the sections thereof all that is necessary is to raise the 1id and turn it to the requisite angle 130 lering the offsets 9 in line with the elongated portions of the eyes 7, slide said lid off, then similarly remove the number of case-sections it is desired to remove, and then pla'ce the offsets 9 011 the pintles carried by the lid in alinement With the elongated portions of the eyes of the hinge-section on the then top case-section and slide said offsets and pintles in said eyes, and then turn the lid over either rearwardly to leave said lid open 01 forwardly to close said lid.

It will be readily understood that the locaton of the eyed and of the pintled portions of the respeetive hinges maybe reversed from the position thereof sh 0wn in the drawings and described herein w=thoutdepartng from my invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim s- 1. Aseetional case for containing and t1ansportng commodities, consisting of a series of verteally-disposed seetions each seeton having at its 1ear a pair of straps eaeh havng at 0ne end a laterallyextendn g pintle having an 0fset and at its other end an .elon;,gmtedeyed portion, substantally as and for the purpose set forth.

A sectonal case for containng and transpo1ting commodities, consisting 0f a series of verteally-disposed sections, eaeh section havin g at ts rear a pair of straps eaeh havng at one end portion alaterally-extending pntle ha"ing an 01set and at its ether end an e1ongated eyed porton, and. a 1id havng at its rea1 a pair of depending straps having an elongated eyeclporton substantially as and forthe purp.ose set forth.

A sectonal case consisting of a lid, a pair of straps depending rearwardly thereof and havin g an elongated eyed portion one 01 more sections, and vertieal straps seeured to the rear of said seetions zmd each havng an angularlyextending central porton and, at one end, an elongated eye and, at its ether end, a 1ateral pintle having a transverse offset, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

4. A sectonatl case eonsisting of a plurality of sections, andvertical straps secured to the real of sad seetions and eaeh havng at one enc1 an eye havng a transversely-taperng bore and at its other end a lateral pnt1e hav ng a transverse offset, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
