Our invention relates to a carrying case having compartments and movable trays in which toilet and other personal articles may be conveniently carried. An object of the invention is the provision of means whereby when the lid of the case is opened it will swing the trays upwardly to a position where their contents will be readily accessible, and conversely when the lid is lowered it will swing the trays downwardly to permit the lid to close.

Other objects will hereinafter appear and in order that the invention may be fully understood, reference will now be had to the accompanying drawing, in which:

Fig. 1 is a perspective View of the case with the lid thereof in open position.

Fig. 2 is an enlarged cross section on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.

Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of the case with the lid in closed position.

Fig. 4 is a detail perspective of part of the means through which the movements of the trays are controlled by the lid.

Referring in detail to the different parts, 2 designates the body of the case which is divided into a relatively large central compartment 4 and two narrow end compartments 6 by means of transverse partitions 1.

8 designates a lid which is connected to the rear wall of the body 2 by hinges I8, so that said lid may be swung to either an open or a closed position. The lid 8 is provided with a xedly mounted mirror I2 and reinforced by two `transverse partitions I4, which latter are slight- 1y farther apart than the partitions 1 to avoid contacting with the same when the lid 8 is closed, as shown by Fig. 3.

I6 designates a pair of trays which are mounted to swing transversely to the movement of the lid 8 in their passage to and from the respective compartments 6. This result may be accomplished by operably connecting the trays I6 to the body 2 in dilerent ways. For example we have shown the bottoms I8 of the` trays I6 connected to the respective Yend walls of the body 2 by hinges 20. Each bottom I8 has an extension 2I which projects beyond the adjacent side wall 22 of each tray I6 to close the space between the trays and the'associated partitions 1,- Fig. 1, so that articles may not fall into the compartments 6 when the trays are in raised position. Each tray I6 is provided with a cover 24 operably connected thereto and adapted to prevent articles from falling out of the trays when the same are swung inwardly to the respective positions shown by Fig. 3.

Different means may be employed whereby the movements of the trays I6 are automatically controlled through the movements of the lid 8. For example we have shown such means in the form of links 26 and two sets of hinges 32 and 34. Each hinge comprises two leaves, one leaf of each hinge 32 being connected to the respective partitions I4 and the other connected by a pivot 28 to the adjacent end of the respective links 26. One leaf of each hinge 34 is connected to the adjacent tray I6 and the other connected by a pivot 38 to the end of the adjacent link 26. The hinges 32 are arranged at suitable angles to the hinges 34 to permit the trays to move at rightangles or transversely to the movement of the lid 8.

With the foregoing arrangement it is apparent that when the lid 8 is raised to open position it will, through the intermediary of the links 26 and hinges 32 and 34, swing the trays I6 upwardly and outwardly a quarter of a revolution to the position shown by Fig. 1, and conversely when the lid is closed it will swing the trays downwardly into the compartments 6.

'I'he links 26 are of such length as to check the movement of the lid 8 when it is swung open to the rearwardly inclined position shown by Figs. 1 and 2, where it presents the mirror at a convenient angle for use.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawing, it is apparent that we have provided an attractive case which is well adapted for the purpose intended, and while we have shown one form of the invention, we reserve all rights to such other forms and modications as properly fall within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A case comprising a body, a lid hinged to said body, a tray arranged in one end of the body and adapted to swing transversely to the movement of the lid when the same is opened or closed, means opcrably connecting the tray to said body to permit the tray to swing downward when the lid is closed or upward when the lid is opened, a pair of two-leaf hinges, one having a leaf secured to the body and the other a leaf secured to the lid, and a link operably connected to free leaves of the hinges and adapted to cooperate therewith in swinging the tray when the said body, a tray arranged transversely in each end of the body and adapted to swing transversely to the movement of the lid when the same is moved to open or closed position, means operably connecting each tray to the body to allow the trays to swing downward when the lid is closed or upward when the lid is opened, two sets of two-leaf hinges, one set having a leaf secured to the body and the other set having a leaf secured to the lid, V"and a pair Vof Alinks ,pivotally connected at their ends to the respective free leaves of the hinges and adapted to cooperate therewith in swinging the trays when the lid is opened or closed.

3. A case comprising a body, a lid operably connected to said body, a tray operably connected to the body and adapted to swing transversely to the movement of the lid when the same is opened or closed, a link actuated by the lid and adapted to control the movements of the tray, a two-leaf hinge having one leaf fixed to the tray and the other leaf operably connected to the link, and another two-leaf hinge having one leaf xed tothe'lid-andfthefothenleaf operably 10 connected to the' link.
