UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDW'ARD J. BOYD, OF NEWV YORK, N. Y.
TROUSERS-CREAS ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 562,276, dated June 16, 1896.
Application filed September 23.1895. Serial No. 563,289. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD J. BOYD, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in 'lrousers-Oreasers, of which the following is a specification.
Stretchers have been made use of with upper and lower clamps for grasping the trousers and for applying a spring or other force to stretch such trousers and thereby maintain the creases or folds usually found upon the front and back surfaces of the trousers, but it is often desirable to maintain these creases without stretching the trousers.
My present invention relates to the combination, in a trousers-creaser, of a board or plate to pass in between the legs of the trousers and a board or plate at each outer side and springclamps for pressing the boards or plates toward the center board or plate, and thereby smoothing the trousers and forming or maintaining the creases at the front and back of such trousers, and these boards or plates are easily separated for inserting or removing the trousers, and these boards or plates are provided with slip-hinges or connections for insuring their proper position to one another and for allowing them to be easily separated inintroducing or withdrawing the trousers.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents the creaser in position for use, and Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the parts of the creaser and in larger size.
The center board or plate A is of a size and shape adapted to pass between the legs of the trousers, and the side boards or plates B and O are of a size and shape adapted to be applied outside of the legs of the trousers, .and it is generally advantageous to have these boards or plates of a sufficient width for receiving between them the leg portions of the trousers, but if desired these boards or plates may be narrower, so as only to act at the front or back edge of the legs of the trousers. These boards or plates A B O are easily separable, but they are adapted to be held in the proper relative positions by slip-hinges preferably in the form of tongues 2 3 on the respective boards or plates B and O, passing through mortises or slots in the center board or plate A, such slots being sufficiently large to allow steel or other metal bent around with the ends adjacent to each other, the end portions being bent back or curved outwardly to facilitate the insertion of such spring-clamps upon the creaser board or plates, as shown, to appl'y the proper force in creasing the fabric of the trousers.
I claim as my invention- 1. The combination in a trousers-creaser, of a central board or plate and outer boards and means for removably connecting the outer boards or plates to the center board or plate, and a clip for supplying pressure in creasing the legs of the trousers, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination in a trousers-creaser, of a central board or plate having mortises or openings through it, outer boards or plates having tongues passing into the mortises or openings for connecting the parts together and a clip for applying pressure in creasing the legs of the trousers between the central and outer boards or plates, substantially as set forth.
Signed by me this 17th day of September,
EDWARD J. BOYD.
