Description
C. D. FAHL.
GREASER FOR TROUSERS.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 25, 1908.
Patented Nov. 3, 1908.
tion of the trouser PATENT OFFICE.
CLEMENT D. FAHL, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
CBEABER FOR TROUSERS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it knownthat I, CLEMENT D. FAHL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and-State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Creasers for Trousers, of which the followin -is a specification.
1y invention relates to certain new and useful im )rovements in creasers for trousers, the...object being to provide a device which will crease and stretch the trousers, so as to form a crease in the front and back portions of the legs, and remove the fullnessatthe knees.
Another. object is to provide a device which is simp e and cheap in construction and which can legs of a pair of trousers.
These objects are attained b the novel arrangement and construction or parts here iiiafter fully described and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure l, is a perspective view of my improved creaser. Fig. 2, is a section taken on line 2 2' of Fig. 1 showing a pair of trousers arranged therein, and Fig. 3, is a section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1 showing a porleg between the members.
In the drawings A desi nates two opposed longitudinally extending ase strips or bars preferably made of wood of a length greater than the length of a pair of trousers, and adapted to contact with one face of a trouserleg. At their upper are spaced apart by adjustable spacing bars so that one end of the stretcher may be wider than the other to provide for the widen ing of the trouser leg as it nears the hip, and also to provide for a lateral adjustment of the two bars in order to stretch the trousets as will be hereafter described.
While I do not wish to be limited to any particular s acing means, I prefer to use at each end 0 the stretcher the construction shown in the drawings which consists of two flat bars'C and D contacting and moving on each other, one of said bars being attached to each one of said longitudinal pieces A. One of the bars is slotted as at 0, has a bolt cl assing through the slot provided with a c amp nut cl thereon. The bar G is provided at its end with an up-turned stop and the bar D with upwardly turned lateral wings (1 adapted to engage with the edges of the bar C, thus preventing the bars Specification of Letters Patent. be readily clamped over theand lower ends they the other Patented Nov. 3, 190B.
from having any pivotal motion on each other.
Hinged uponthe outer edges of the bars or strips A are the flat bars or strips B, the hinges a being preferably attached on either side of the middle of the strips, so as'to give a firm support to the middle portion thereof. The ars or strips B are shorter than the strips A and are beveled at. th sir ends for engagement with the beveled end faces of a pair of angular, pivotally mounted, clamping buttons E, E, one at the top and the other at the bottom of each of the strips A. The ivots are formed by bolts or screws 6 passing through the button and provided with nuts or heads on their under side.
As shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the inner face of the projecting portions e of the buttons E are beveled laterally from the inside outwardly and upwardly, while each end of the strips B on their outer faces is beveled inivardl and towards the end. It will thus be seen t at as the buttons are turned inwardlv to t. ie osition shown in the ing action against the strips 13 forcing them tightly against the outer faces of the strips A, and holding them there.
In order to make a ood contact and prevent wear of the woo I prefer to provide wearing plates leg on the left hand side of Fig. 1, they will have a wedg-- F on thebeveled face of the strips B against which the buttons shall contact..
Iii order to make the lateral adjustment of the strips easy, I provide the springs G which connect one strip A with the other, and v; hich, when the clamp nuts d are unloosed act to draw the bars or strips A towards each other.
The inside faces of the strips A and of the hinged strips B are preferably lined with felt H, and strips of cardboard or other fabric H are provided to be placed on either side (if the trousers when in the press.
The operation of my device'is as follows: The hinged clamping strips B are turned outwardly and. the stri s A are adjusted from each other to suit the size of the trousers to be )ressed. This is accom lished by adjusting t e bars C, D, upon eac other and clamping them in their adjusted.
tion. One trouser leg is then laid on the posistri is A and B, so as tojoring the front and, 1
H is then laid over the front and back portion of the leg and the other trouser leg brought down and. laid upon the strip of cardboard.
The clamping strips B are then folded inward and down upon the fabric of the trousers at the crease and the buttons are turned so that they engage the beveled faces of the clamping strips.
It will be seen that by forcibly turning the buttons, the hinged strips will be forced downward and clamped against the inner faces of the stri s A so tightlyas to form a crease. After t e trousers have been placed in position in this manner the strips A are forced apart laterally and locked so as to stretch the legs laterally.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A trousers creaser having two op osed longitudinally extending base strips a justably spaced apart so as to engage of a trouser leg :1 clampin strip of the same width as said base strip ginged to each' of said base strips, shorter tlran the same and adapted to fold over 11 on thesame, and clamping buttons pivoted on the upper ani the edges lower ends of each of said base strips above and below the ends of said clamping strips and adapted to be turned to force said hinged clamping strips against thetbase strip.
2. A trousers creaser having two opposed longitudinally extending base strips, an adjusting bar connecting said strips at their upper and lower ends, a clamping stri hinged on its middle portion to each of sai base strips but shorter than the same and adapted to fold over upon said base strip, both ends of said clamping strips being laterally and longitudinally beveled on their outer faces, and angular clamping buttons pivoted on the upper and lower en of each of said base strips above and below the ends of said clamping stri s, the pro'ecting ends of said buttons being eveled an adapted to be turned to force said clamping strips against the said base str' 5.
In testimony WhGI'BOf i have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
