Be it known that I, HENRY R. WYKERT, residing at 817 South Nineteenth street, Omaha, in the county of Douglas and State of Nebraska, have invented certain useful I Improvements in Oamp-Bedsteads; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same,

In the accompanying drawings I have shown in Figure 1 a perspective view of a camp-bed embodying my invention. Fig. 2

shows a side view of one of the central joints. Fig. 3 discloses an end view of one of the terminal unions or joints. Fig. 4 shows a top view of one of the central joints or unions. Fig. 5 shows a side elevation of one of the terminal unions. Fig. 6 discloses an edge view of one of the toggles used in my invention, while Fig. 7 shows a side view of one of the toggles as employed in mydevice.

In carrying out the aim of my invention I construct a frame comprising the members a, b, a, and b. The members a and b a, and b are each united by a center union. This union is of a special construction and is composed of two flat preferably sheet-steel members 1. These members are united by a perch 2, preferably of sheet-steel, and bent at right angles, as is disclosed in dotted lines in Fig. 2. A portion of this web, as is shown at 3, is made to project through a horizontal slot within these plates 1 and is upset or riveted so that the plates 1 are united by means of the horizontal portion of this perch 2. At a suitable point opposite the vertical portion of the perch 2 is a stop 4, having projecting portions 5, which are also riveted, so that these plates forming the central joint or union are securely united by means of the perch 2 and the vertical stop 4. 2, it will be noticed that the projecting ortions 3 and 5 are not as wide as the perc or stop, so that shoulders are formed against and upon which these plates 1 rest. These plates 1 are each provided with the erforations 6, 7, and 8, which register so t at the bed members a, a, b, and b may be secured by means of suitable rivets 6 7, as shown in Fig. 1. By means of the rivets 6 the bar a is pivotally secured to the central joints, while a like rivet is used in securing the member a. The rivet 7 pivotally receives the member I) and a like rivet the member I). Held between the vertical portion of the perch 2 and the stop 4 is a central leg 9, two such legs being used, opposite one being marked 9, which are secured approximately midway of their ends by means of the bolt 10. These central supporting-legs are fixed and form a permanent part of the central joints or unions and provide a sort of a cross-head from which the side members of the bed pivotally extend. To the end of each side bed member is secured a terminal'um'on or joint comprising a plate 12, having the perforations 13 and 14 and the two upwardly-extending cars 15 as is shown in Figs. 3 and 5. By means of a suitable rivet 16, as shown in Fig. 1, these terminal unions or joints 12 are pivotally secured to the side bed members a, a, b, and b to pivotally support end legs 17, 17, 18, and

18, secured by means of the rivets 19 and 19. The upper ends of the legs 1.7 and 17 18 and 18 are held between the cars 15, as disclosed in Fig. 1. Suitable bolts are further used, which are made to pass through the terminal legs and through the opening 13 to properly secure the terminal legs to the Upon each side are next used a set of toggle-bars, which are exactly alike in construction and comprise the member 20, (shown in Fig. 6,) provided with the perforation 21 and the car 22, to which is secured the remaining toggle member 23, secured by means of the rivet 24, this member 23 being provided with the upwardly-extending ear 25, this car 25 being made to lie below and against the side bed member a and b, as indicated in Fig. 1, while the ear 22 serves as a stop when the togglebars arebrought into alinement. The bar 23 is provided with 'a perforation 26, through which passes a suitable bolt 27 by means of which the toggle-bars are secured to the side bed members a and b, so that when the bed IIO is open, as is disclosed in Fig. 3, the togglebars will hold the terminal legs in transverse alinement with the side members of the bed.

In Fig. 1 the bed-frame is disclosed; but the canvas bed-bottom or other bed-bottom is not shown, as any suitable mattress may be secured to the bed-frame. Having thus described my said invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent, is-

A camp-bedstead comprising a frame composed of four side members, said members being united by a central union, said union comprising two flat perforated sheet-metal members, a perch preferably of sheet metal and bent at right angles to unite said mem bers, a stop secured opposite to said perch so arranged that said members form acentral joint or union united by means of said perch and stop, central legs held adjacent said perch and said stop, said legs being firmly secured and forming a permanent part of said central joint or union aforesaid frame members extending from said joint or union, a terminal union or joint secured to the end of each side bed-frame member comprising a perforated plate having two upwardly-extending ears, said unions or joints being pivotally secured to said side bed members, end supporting-legs rigidly secured to said terminal unions, the upper ends of said legs being held between said last-mentioned ears, said legs being crossed and pivotally united in sets of twos, and a set of toggle-bars se- 'cured to each set of end supporting-legs at one end and secured to the adjacent side bar at the opposite end in the-manner shown.
