HOLDER FOR IRONING-BOARD COVERS.
Speccation of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 23, 19111.
Patenteasept. 29, 1914. Serial No. 833,945.
To all coito/lt t may concern:
Be it known that I, Firm T. BAiisTow, acitizen of the United States, residing at rIacoma, in the county of Pierce and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Holders for Ironing-Board Covers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in holders for ironing board covers and the primary object of the invention is to provide a holder of the character described which may be simply and cheaply con* structed and which will be strong and eliicient in operation.
A secondary object is to provide a device of this character which may be readily folded when not in use.
l/Vith the above and other objects in view, the invention resides in certain novel fea* tures of construction and combination herein described and claimed and shown in the drawings wherein:
Figure l is a bottomplan view of an ironing board showing the application of my improved fastener; Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the fastener removedgFig. 3 is a transverse section on the line 3-3 ofFig. l; and Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the holder in folded position.
In the accompanying drawings, I have shown my improved holder as comprising longitudinal cloth gripping `jaws l, slotted links 2 pivoted to said jaws, and fastening means 3 for a urpose to appear. l are preferably formed of flat strips of sheet metal bent substantially upon themselves throughout their lengths to provide lower flanges 4L and upper flanges 5, the latter being provided with teeth 6 which are adapted to bite into the opposite sides of the ironing cloths placed over the board B. The links 2 are slotted as at 7 throughout the major part of their lengths and are pivotally connected at 8 to the lower flanges 4 of the jaws l, the inner ends of the links 2 car- The jaws llower flanges ried by one jaw 1 overlapping the links carried by the opposite jaw, and adapted to be secured in position by the fastening elements 3 which are here shown in the form of bolts 9 having the squaredportions 19 of their shanks slidably mounted in the slots 7 of one series of the links 2, while the remaining portions of said shanks project through the slots of the other series of links, and are provided with thumb nuts 10.
In the operation of the device, the ironing blanket and sheet are stretched over the ironing board B and their free edges are brought toward each other beneath said board in a well-known manner. The teeth 6 of the jaws 5 are then forced into said meeting edges and the two jaws l are then forced toward each other at one end and the thumb nut 10 at said end is tightened to retain them in this position. The other end of the jaws l may then be forced together and similarly locked, after which the central links may be fastened vin the same manner.
By constructing the device as above described, and as shown in the drawings, the operation of application will be rendered very` simple and when the device is not in use, the jaws l may be moved toward each other and the links 2 will assume the approximate positions shown in Fig. 4.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the device will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is:
l. A device `of the character described, comprising a pair of longitudinal jaws having upper and lower inwardly extending flanges connected along their outer edges, the upper flanges being of less width than the lower, teeth along the inner edges of the upper flanges, slotted `links pivoted to said and extending inwardly into overlapping engagement, bolts depending through the slots of said links and thumb nuts on said bolts.
2. A device of the character described In testimony whereof I have hereunto set comprising a pair of spaced longitudinal my hand in presence of tvvo subscribing Wittoothed jaws, invvardlv extending links pivnesses.
oted to said jaws and lying in overlapping EFFA T. BARSTOW. 5 engagement with one another, and clamping Witnesses:
means for locking said links against move- ROSE A. MARTIN,
