TROUSERS PRESS.
Application filed July 10, 1923. Serial No. 650,634.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHN WILLIAM COOPER, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Kin ston-upon-Hull, in the county of York, Eng and, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trousers Presses, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to trousers presses.
My invention has for its object, improvements in trousers presses whereby such presses are extremely simple of construction and cheap to produce but yet will be as effective as the expensive presses in pressing and producing creases in trousers.
In the accompanying drawings, Fig. 1 is a plan View of my improved trousers press, Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same, Fig. 3 is a section on the line 12 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a perspective View of the upturned end of one of the transverse metal bars or pieces secured to the bottom pressing member, showing the same provided with two slot-holes, Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a portion of the press, and Fig. 6 is an end view of a por tion of the press showing a slightly modified arrangement of the upturned end of the transverse metal bars or pieces secured to the bottom pressing member.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several figures.
My invention consists of two pressing members each in the form of two thinflat boards, or pieces of plywood, compressed paper or fibre or like material, A and A indicating the two boards or pieces which constitute the bottom pressing member, and B, B the two boards or pieces which constitute the top pressing member.
The two boards or pieces. A, A which con stitute the bottom pressing member are connected by strong transverse bars or pieces of metal C and C which are secured to the underside thereof, the ends of which bars or pieces extend beyond the outer edges of the two boards or pieces A, A one end of each of such transverse bars or pieces carry ing a bolt 0, the opposite end of each bar or piece being bent to project upwardly'as indicated at 0 such uplwardly projecting portions being provide each with a slot-hole a as shown more clearly in Figs. 2 and 5 of the figures, or with two slot-holes c 0 as shown at Fig. 4:.
The two boards or pieces 13, 1B which constitute the top pressing member are similarly connected by strong transverse metal bars or pieces oil? metal D and D which are secured to the top side thereof, the ends of which bars or pieces extend beyond the outer edges of the said two boards or pieces, one end of each bar or piece being adapted to pass into the slotehole or into one of the slot-holes in the upturned end of the corresponding transverse bar or piece secured to the bottom pressing member, the other end of each transverse bar or piece D, D being provided with a hole cl to allow the said ends of such bars or pieces to pass on to the bolts 0, (2 carried by the corresponding ends of the transverse bars or pieces C and C secured to the bottom pressing member.
The trousers to be pressed are laid on the bottom pressing member, the top pressing member is then placed in position by inserting one end of each of the transverse bars or pieces D, D secured thereto, in the slot hole 0 or in the slot-hole 0 in the upturned ends of the corresponding transverse bars or pieces C, C secured to the bottom pressing member, and passing the other ends of such transverse bars or pieces D, D on to the bolts 0, 0 carried by the corresponding ends of the transverse bars or pieces C, C of such bottom pressing member and then turning wing or other suitable nuts F on to the said bolts to bear on the ends of the transverse bars or pieces D, D through which such bolts project, the two pressing members being thus clamped together with the trousers between them.
If desired, instead of one end of the transverse bars or pieces C, C of the bottom pressing member being turned up and the upturned portion provided with a slot-hole or slot-holes, and the corresponding ends of the transverse bars or pieces D, D of the top pressing member extending beyond the edge of such pressing member to engage such holes, one end of each transverse bar or piece C, C of the bottom pressing member may be bent upwardly and then inwardly and the inwardly bent portion have a tapped hole to take a set screw E to put pressure on the other pressing member by pressing on the ends of the transverse or pieces D, D of such top pressing member, as shown at Fig. 6 of the drawings.
Instead of the pressing members each consisting of two boards or pieces, one or other of such pressing members may be the form,
means for slidably engaging with each other to prevent the press boards from being moved apart, screws secured to the projecting end portions of certain of the bars at the other side of the press and projecting; through openings in the bars opposite to them, and nuts screwed on the said bolts and operating to clamp the bars together, with the trousers between the press boards.
In testimour whereof I miix mV signature.
JOHN WILLIAM COOPER.
