No. 831,254. 7 PATENTED SEPT. 18, 1906.
J. O. WARD. IRONING BOARD.
APPLICATION FILED NOV. 21. 1905.
Inventor Attorneys and has for an object to provide a device oi Unrrnn srnrns JOHN O. WARD, OF

W. JUNE, OF
ATENT OFFICE.
lRONlNG-BOARDL Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept-18, 1906.
Application filed November 21, 1905, 3e l lo 288.410;
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Jenn O. Wnnoya citizen of the United States, residing at Santa Maria, in the county of Santa Barbara and State of California, have invented a new and useful Ironing-Board, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to ironiiigboards,
and improved lea the class embodying new rigidity,
tures of adaptability, convenience, and efficiency.
A further object of the invention is to provide an ironing-board embodying improved means For attaching to a table of the usual construction and affording unusual rigidity and security.
A further object of the inventionis to provide an ironing-board embodying improved means for adjusting to various thicknesses of table-tops and including no parts to be lost or mislaid. I
With these and other objects in view the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement oi" parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the aecompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim, it being understood that changes in the form, proportion, size, and minor details maybe made without departing from the spirit or s21 criijcing any of the advantages of this invention.
In. the drawings, Figure 1 .isa view of the improved ironing-board in. side elevation applied to a table. Fig. 2 is a view of the board in side elevation and folded. Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the board folded. Fig. 4'is a detail sectional view. Fig. 5 is a detail view of the bin Like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all of the figures oi" the drawings. s," In its preferred embodiment the improved ironing-board forming the subject-matter of this application conmrises a tapered table member 10, provided with a hmgitudinal slot 11, formed in its wider end, and with spurs, which vtor convenience and economy may be the screws 12, extending upward from its upper surface upon each side oi? the slot. 1 To thegund'er surface oi the table and. adjacent the slot is secured one leaf of a hinge, as 13, the other leaf 14; being provided with a slot 15. A leg member 16 is provided with a notch 17, forininga shoulder 18 forengaging the upper surface of a table, as 19, and in -opposed relaiion to the spurs 12. The leg is secured to the table by means of a bolt 20, slidably engaged within the slot 15, and retained I as by the nut 21.
To adapt the device for application to table-tops oi diilerent thicknesses, it is necessary sln'iply to loosen the nut 21 on the bolt 20 and slide the leg relatively to the leaf 14 in a direction indicated by the slot 15 thereof to decrease or diminish the interval between the plane of the table member 10 and the shoulder 18. When the desired interval has been provided, the bolt may be tightened to lock the parts at the desired adjustment.
The ironing-board may then be applied to or removed from 'a table-top simply by relative swinging movement of the top 10 and. leg 16. Further adjust mmt of the leg with reference to the hinge-ieaf 14 is not necessary unless it is desired to apply the device to a table-top of a diil'ercnt thickness.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is- Y An ironing board comprising a table formed with a longitudinal slot at one end, engaging spurs projecting upward. from the upper surface of the table at opposite sides of the slot, a leg member formed with an engaging shoulder, said leg member pro 'ecting edgewise through the'slot in the ta lo, a hinge having its upper leaf secured to the under surface of the ta )le adjacent the slot, and havingits lower leaf extending downward along the upper ed go of the leg member and formed with a longitudinal slot, and a bolt extending through the slot and edgewise through the leg member, said bolt being provided with a tightening-nut, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN O. WARD.
