' Be it known that I, GEORG-E HENRY HAZEL- TON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Middleboro, in the county of Plymouth and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Trousers Hanger and Stretcher, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates generally to trousers hangers and stretchers, and more particularly to one of such construction that one, two, or more pairs of trousers may be hung at the same time from the bottom, the weight of the garments serving to stretch them and the hanger serving to properly shape and crease them around the bottom while being suspended.

The object of my invention is to provide a hanger of the kind referred to which will be cheap and simple in construction and exceedingly easy to understand and operate.

Another object of the inventionisto provide ahanger in which the bottoms of the trousers will be firmly pressed betweenboards, thereby'avoiding the production of grooves or marks upon the bottom of the trousers inci-' dental to the wire hangers now in use; and a still further object is to provide a hanger which can be quickly and easily taken down or hung up, as desired, and one which does not require permanent attachment to a closetdoor or other object.

With these objects in view. my invention consists, essentially, in the employment of a base or back board and one or more clamping-boards arranged parallel with the base or back board and loosely connected thereto at their upper edges, said boards being adapted to be clamped together after having the bottoms of the trousers arranged therebetween by means of spring-clips; and the invention consists also in the novel manner of connecting said clips to the base or back board; and

. it also consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement hereinafter fication, Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the practical application of my invention.

In constructing a hanger and stretcher in accordance with my invention I employ a base or back board A and preferably two clamping-boards B and C; but it will be understood that I may-employ as many of these clamping-boards as desired. The back and clamping boards are of substantially the same size and area and are loosely connected at their upper edges adjacent their ends by means of cords or tapes D or other flexible connection passing through aperturesA, B, and C, produced in the boards A, B, and C, respectively. It will be understood that the cords D are of such length that the boards A, B, and C can be separated sufficiently to permit the bottoms of the trousers to be inserted therebetween, as most clearly'shown in Figs. 1 and 5.

For the purpose of securely clamping the boards together I employ two spring-clips E, preferably made of stout spring-wire bent uponitself, the longer member E being slidably connected to the rear face of the baseboard, while the member E is adapted to contact with and press against the outer face of the outer-board C, as most clearly shown in Figs. 1, 4, and 5. In the drawings I have shown the member E of the spring-clip sliding in a groove F,-produced in the rear face of the base or back board A; but it is obvious that other suitable guiding means may be employed, if so desired. The members E work through apertures G produced in the plates Gr adjacent their outer ends. the inner ends of said plates being bifurcated, as shown at G, to permit the free vertical movement of the members E. The bow portion E ofeach clip serves as a handle, by means of which it can be moved up and down, and the outwardlyturned ends E serve toiprevent the said clip being pulled too farupwardly, as most clearly shown in Fig. 2.

After the trousers have been arranged between the boards the clips are pushed down as far as possible, thereby securely clamping the boards upon the ends of the trousers, and in this manner the ends of the trousers will be pressed fiat and properly creased and will not be grooved or otherwise marked. The device can be suspended by hanging upon a hook or nail, the base or back board being preferably constructed with a central apertured portion A for that purpose. The boards can be made any length desired and any desired number of clips employed.

It will thus be seen that I provide an exceedingly cheap, simple,and efficient construction of trousers hanger and stretcher and one which will successfully carry out all of the objects hereinbefore referred to.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A trousers-hanger comprising a plurality of boards, and spring-clips for holding them clamped together, said clips being slidably connected to one of the boards.

2. A trousers-hanger comprising a plurality of boards and spring-clips for clamping the boards together, said clips being slidably connected to one of the boards, and means for opening the said clips as they are raised as set forth.

3. Atrousers-hangercomprisingaplurality of boards, spring-clips for clamping the boards together, said clips being slidably connected to one of said boards, and means connected to said board for guiding and opening the clips.

4. A trousers-hanger com prising a plurality of boards loosely connected together at their upper edges, spring-clips for clamping the boards together, said clips being slidably connected to one of the outer boards, and plates connected also to said outer board, said plates having apertures adjacent their outer ends and through which the short members of the clips work.

5. A trousers-hanger comprising a baseboard, and clamping-boards loosely connected at their upper edges, spring-clips for clamping the boards together, one member of each clip being slidably connected to the baseboard, the other member being adapted to engage the outer clamping-board, the end of said member being turned outwardly, and

plates connected to the base-board, and having apertures adjacent their ends, and through which the outer members of the clips work, substantially as described.
