REUBEN R. MCCLURG AND JOHN W. PHILLIPS, OF DOUBLEHEAD, ALABAMA.
PLOW-CLAMP, ABUTMENT, AND SCRAPER-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part-0f Letters Patent No. 557,689, dated April '7, 1896. Application filed August 21, 1895, Serial No. 560,019. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, REUBEN R. MCCLURG and JOHN W. PHILLIPS, citizens of the United States, residing at Doublehead, in the county of Chambers and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plow Clamp and Abutment and Scraper- Holder; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
Our invention is a plow-clamp, abutment, and scraper-holder; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of our invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view. Fig. 3 is an inverted perspective view of the abutment. Fig. 4 is an inverted perspective view of the scraperholder.
Our invention is described as follows: A is the plow-standard, provided with a slot 0. near its lower end, Fig. 2. B is the plowpoint, which may be long or short, wide or narrow-in fact, it may be any kind of a plow-point. This plow-point is held in position by means of a clamp O and an abutment D. The abutment consists of a plate provided with a slot 02, arms a, and downwardlyextending lugs f. The lugs ff work against each side of the plow-standard and keep the abutment from turning on the same. The lower faces (2 e of the arms e abut against the upper end Z) of the plow-point B and keep said plow-point from turning to the right or left.
In the drawings, Fig. 2, there is a little space left between the lower face of the arms and the upper end of the plow-point to show that these pieces are not one.
The clamp O is provided with a slot 0, through which the bolt 0 works. Said bolt is provided with a bur and washer c Clamp O is also provided with a tongue 0 which works in the slot (4. The purpose of this tongue is twofold. It may be brought down until its lower face is flush with the lower faces 6 e of the arms e, in which case it assists as an abutment in holding the plowpoint in place, and it also assists the bolt 0 in keeping the clamp to its place.
On the lower face and near the lower end of the plow-standard is secured, by means of the bolt 0 and bur and washer 0 a scraperholder E. Said scraper-holder is provided with a tongue g, which rests against the lower wall of the slot a. Said scraper-holder is also provided with four lugs h, which rest against the outer faces of the plow-standard. One or two scrapers may be used, in which case they are secured between the lower face of the plow-standard A and the inner face of the scraper-holder E. The scraper-holder may be also turned so that the tongue 9 may rest against the upper wall of the slot a.
By the use of our invention we may continue the use of a plow-point until it is almost entirely worn out, and our plow-point does not necessarily need the usual perforation for the heel-bolt.
Having described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination of the plow-standard A, provided with a slot a; abutment D, provided with the slot cl, arms e, and downwardlyextending lugs f; clamp 0, provided with the slot 0; plowpoint B, adapted to work between the standard A and clamp O, and abut against the arms 6; bolt 0; nut and washer 0 substantially as shown and described and for the purposes set forth.
The combination of the plow-standard A, provided with a slot at; abutment D, provided with the slot cl, arms 6, and downwardlyextending lugs f; clamp 0, provided with the slot 0, and tongue 0 substantially as shown and described and for the purposes set forth.
3. The combination of the plow-standard A, provided with a slot a; abutment D, provided with the slot (Z, arms 6, and downwardlyextending lugs f; clamp 0, provided with the slot 0; plow-point B, adapted to work between the standard A and clamp O, and abut against the arms c; scraper-ho1der E, fitting against the lower face of the standard A, substantially as shown and described and for the purposes set forth.
