To aZZ whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, VICTOR CAKES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brule, in the county of Douglas and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tables; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to tables, and more particularly to that class of tables known as self-waiting tables, in which the supplemental top that supports the dishes containing articles of food is made to rotate with respect to the table-top proper.

Theobject of the invention is to provide a table of this character which shall be simple of construction, durable in use, and comparatively inexpensive of production.

With these objects in View the invention consists of certain features of construction and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved table. Fig. 2 is avertical sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view through the sleeve and through the tube carried by the supplementary rotary top.

In the drawings, 1 denotes a table, which may be of any desired form or construction, but which is shown in the present instance as having a circular top 2, legs 3, and braces 4. Secured to the braces and projecting upward therefrom at the center thereof is a stud 5, having a rounded head 6 and an enlarged screw-threaded portion 7.- This stud is preferably secured to the braces by a nut 8, and is directly under an opening 9 in the tabletop. A sleeve 10 is inserted through the opening in the table top and is screwed down upon the enlarged screw-threaded portion of the stud, and is in this manner held firmly in place.

11 denotes the supplementary table-top This top is provided with a depending split tube 12, which is secured by a collar 13 to the under side of the top, and is adapted to be in= serted within the sleeve, and owing to its split construction, which provides a slight spring action, the tube will have a sufficient frictional engagement with the sleeve to prevent the supplemental top being turned too suddenly, which would cause the dishes to be thrown off the same. The lower end of the tube engages the rounded head of the stud, which forms a supporting-bearing for thesupple mental table-top and prevents the parts bind ing, Knobs 14 maybe reinovably secured to the edge of: the supplemental top and serve as a means for fastening the table-cloth thereto, as well as for turning the top.

In use, the dishes containing articles of food are placed upon the supplemental top, while the plates and cups and saucers and such small articles are placed upon the exposed portion of the table-top proper. When aperson desires to wait upon himself, he turns the supplemental top until the dish is brought opposite him and from which he may now re move the food. These tables are well adapted to public places, as well as private places, and owing to the frictional engagement of the tube with the sleeve persons unfamiliar with or unaccustom ed to operating these tables will be prevented from suddenly turning the sup plemental top around, which sudden movement will be very apt to cause the dishes containing the food to be thrown from the top.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The combination with a table having an aperture in its top, a stud secured to the leg braces and having a screw threaded portion and a rounded head, a sleeve having an interiorly screw threaded lower end which engages the threaded portion of the stud, the

'upper end of said sleeve being located in the aperture of the table top, of asupplementary top having a depending split tube which yieldingly engages the sleeve and the lower end of which is supported by the head of the stud, substantially as set forth.
