FASTENING PIN FOR NEGKWEAR. N-0.-'545,326. Pat'ented Aug. 27, 1895.
UNrrnD STATES v JOSEPH WEIL, OF
PATENT Orricn.
NEW Yoan, N. Y.
FASTENlNG-PIN FOR NECKWEAR.v
SPEGFIGATION formingpart. of Letters Patent No. 545,326, dated August 27, 1895. Application filed October 25, 1894. Serial No. 526960- (N0 model.)
To @LZ wwm it may concern,.-
Be 1t known that I, JOSEPH WEIL, acitizen Y of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fastening- Pins for Neckwear, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in neckband fastening-pins for neckwear.
The object of Inyinvention is to provide a pin of this kind which can readily be fastened on the articles of neckwear and adjusted in the proper position, is held rmly and securely and cannot give in any direction when the neckband is being applied on the same, and which is strong and simple in construction. i
The invention consists in a neckband fastening-pin bent and shaped ont of a piece of wire, to have a pointed prong for holding the ncckband and with loops, eyes, and jambs, by means ot which it can be fastened on the shield or analogous part of the article of neckwear, all as will be fully described and set forth hereinafter, and tinally pointed out in the claims.
'In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specitication, and in which like letters of reference indicate like parts in all the views, Figure l is a face view of my improved fastening-pin applied on a piece of fabric. Fig. 2 is arear View of the pin. Fig. 3 is a side view of the pin, the fabric being shown in section.
The fastening-pin A is made of a single piece of wire, having one end tapered and shaped to form a point B, at the free end of a prong B. At the upper end of said prong the wire is bent Uyshaped, as at B2, toward the front, in such a manner that the shank C, of the Ushaped part B2, is in a plane in front of the plane of the prong B. At about halt the length of the prong B the wire is again bent U-shaped, as at C2, to extend upward in the same plane as the shank C, and at the side of the same to form the shank D, which extends up beyond the bend B2, and at the upper end of said shank D the wire is bent to forni a double eye E and a shank F, extending down to the bend B2, the said shank F being at the side and in the same plane with the same and the shank C, and the double eye E, being in aplane behindthe Shanks D and F and substantially in the same plane as the prong B. The prong B, as shown in Fig. 3, is slightly inclined downward and ltoward the Shanks C and D, so as to form a pocket d. and to give the prong B a certain spring.
To fasten the pin on the shield GV or other piece of fabric, the pin part B is placed 'on the said piece ot' fabric and forced through the saine a greater or less distance from the edge, in such a manner that that part of the fabric between the edge of the fabric and the point. where the prong has pierced it' rests between the prong B and the shank C and the lower part ,of the shank D, the eye E resting on that. face of the fabric from which the prong B has been forced through. The fabric is thus clamped between the prong or pin part B and the Shanks C D, as shown in Fig. 3, and the double eye E is stitched to the fabric, as shown. Thereby the fasteningpin is held firmly and securely and cannot, give laterally or lengthwise, nor can it tur-n on its length axis as many pins do.
I claiml. A fastening pin for the neck bands of articles of neck wear, formed of a single and continuons piece of wire pointed at the lower end of apin part, bent U shaped at the npper end'ot' the pin part and c arried down to about half the length ot' said pin part and in a plane in front of that of the pin part, to form a shank, then bent upward in the same plane, a distance above the top of the pin part, and bent at its upper end to form an eye behind the upwardly extending part and then extending from said eye down to the top of the pin part substantially as herein shown and described.
2. Afastening pin for 'the neck bands of articles of neck wear formed of a single and of `the shank D, Y
ICC
per end of said second shank, behind the Shanks the pin partbeing inclined slightly toward the two Shanks and With them formn inga spring pocket for receiving a part 0f bstantially as Witnesses:
OSCAR F. GUNZ, D. PETRLPALMEDO.
my invention I have signed my name, in presence of two Witnesses, this 20th day of Ootobei, 189i.
5 the fabric and clamping it, su herein shown and described.
In testimonythnt l Claim the foregoing as JOSEPH WEIL.
