JOSEPH RICHARD SMITH, OF WATERBURY, CONNECTICUT, ASSIG-NOE TO WATER- BURY BUTTON COMPANY, OF WATERBURY, CONNECTICUT, A CORPORATION OF CONNECTICUT.
STOCKING-SUPPORTEB GRIP.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH B. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at. WVaterbury, county of New Haven, State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stocking-Supporter Grips, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in hose supporter grips, the object being to improve the construction and provide a grip member which will not soil or injure the clothing or the body of the wearer.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a rear elevation of the hose supporter grip; Fig. 2 is a front view thereof; Figs. 3, 4, 5, and 6 are views of separate details; and, Fig. 7 is a cross section on the line XX, Fig. l, relatively enlarged.
The grip member is in general in the form of a loop widest at its top and tapering downwardly. This loop is provided at its rear with a felt or fabric covering, as indicated at l, the same being secured to the outer face of a channeled loop member 2, the edges of the felt being turned into the channels and held therein by a keeper-plate 3 contoured to fit in the channeled part of the struck-up channeled member 2.
4 represents a wedge plate arranged to be secured to the front side of the loop as shown in Fig. 2, the same being secured to the keeper-plate in any suitable way, as by fastenings 5-5, the fabric facing l extend ing around the edges of the finished loop so as to avoid danger of cutting or injuring the garments, while the flat fabric facing at the rear may lie directly against the body without soiling or injuring the same. The wedge plate 4 is provided with a tapered or wedge-shaped recess as indicated at 6. The hose or garment to be supported is simply jammed into this wedge-shaped recess and there securely held. The wedge plate 4 is Specification of Letters Patent.

preferably formed of a material that will ofier a good holding surface to the garment.
In Fig. 4: I have shown roughly the general shape of a fabric blank employed with the parts 2-3. In Fig. '7 I have shown, by a relatively enlarged view, the method of gripping the edges of the fabric 1 within the channeled loop 2.
As shown, the edges of the channeled loop member may be pinched when the parts are assembled to clench the several parts together, thus firmly holding them in the assembled position, only a very slight clenching being required to accomplish said result.
What I claim is 1. In a garment supporting grip, a loop member having one surface channeled at opposite sides and around the lower end of said loop, a fabric covering for the surface opposite the channeled portion, the edges of said fabric extending into said channel and a keeper plate to hold said edges in said channel, said loop having a contracted portion at one end and a separately formed plate secured to the contracted portion and having a wedge-shaped slot in its upper edge and opening into the space within the loop member.
2. In a garment supporting grip, a loop member having one surface channeled at opposite sides, a. fabric covering for the surface opposite the channeled portion, the edges of said fabric extending into said channel, a keeper plate adapted to said channel and holding said fabric therein, and a grip plate carried at the lower end of said loop member, said grip plate having a wedge-shaped slot therein, the broader end of said slot opening into the space within the loop.
