NITED STATES PATENT STONEYVALL JACKSON BOWLING, OF GREENVILLE, TEXAS.
KNEE-PAD.
SPECIFIGATiON forming part of Letters Patent No. 545,273, dated August 2'7, 1895.
Application filed October 24,1894.-
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STONEWALL JAoKsoN DOWLING, a citizen of the United States, residing at' Greenville, in the county of Hunt and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Knee-Pads, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in knee-pads, to be made of leather or other pliable material, padded with a yielding lining to give comfort to the wearer.
The object of the invention is to produoea pad which will prevent gravel or the like from working under the knee of the user, and, furthermore, to provide means for excluding moisture.
A further object of the invention is to so a construct the pad that it will prove simple and efficient and be comparatively inexpensive.
\Vith these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully set forth and specifically claimed.
In describing the invention in detail, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view of my pad. Fig. 2 is a side view showing it applied, and Fig. 3 is a plan view of the apron.
In the drawings, 1 denotes the body of the pad, approximately semicircular in cross-section, with the end turned at right angles to the body to extend above the knee=cap. To effect this result, the body is split on each side toward the center and pieces are removed, forming gores 4 4 in its sides, that the end Serial No. 526,878. (No model.) i
The interior of the pad is lined with rubber or other material impervious to water, and thereon is arranged a padding of sheep-skin, felt, or other agent which will make a yielding surface.
The pad is secured in place on the knee by the buckles A and strap connections B, while the apron is buttoned or otherwise secured to the trousers, thus making the pad readily and conveniently adjustable in place and removable, and enabling the user to stand or kneel with equal convenience.
Having fully described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to obtain by Letters Patent, is' v A knee pad formed of pliable material, and consisting of a body having side gores, the upper end of the body being turned up with the overlapping edges of the gores, fixedly secured, an apron secured to the upturned end and straps for attaching the pad in place, for the purpose described.
