SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 544,022, dated August 6, 1895.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, JULIAN BERG, a subject of the Czar of Russia, residing at Warsaw, Russia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Music- Stands, of which the following is a specification.

My invention has relation to portable folding music-stands; and in such connection it relates more particularly to the construction and arrangement thereof.

The principal object of my invention is to provide a simple, light, inexpensive, durable, readily-folding and extensible stand for supporting sheet music or the like; and to which end my invention consists of a music-stand constructed, arranged, and adapted for use in the manner hereinafter described and claimed.

The nature and scope of my invention will be more fully understood from the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming 'part hereof, I in which- Figure 1 is an elevational view of the vertical supmrting-rod of a music-holder in sliding engagement with a tube or cylinder hav ing, by means of knuckle-joint connections, standards or legs conected therewith, and the latter pivotally connected with links engaging and forming the knuckle-joint connections of a tubular hearing which is secured to the lower end of the said rod, the arrange ment just described embodying the characteristic features of my invention. Fig. 2 is a front elevational view of a detachable music-holder and a broken section of its vertical supporting-rod and the tube orcylinder in sliding engagement therewith and adapted to be held to required position by means of a set-screw. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the vertical rod and the collapsible and extensible supporting-legs of said rod in an operative position, and Fig. 4 is a side elevational View of the supportingrod and collapsible and extensible legs of the portable music-stand of my invention in a folded or inoperative position.

It will be observed that when it is required to fold the stand, by loosening the'set-serew b extending through the tube b into engagement with the vertical rod a, the legs may be caused to assume the position illustrated in Fig. 4, as well as the parts connected therewith, and thus is provided a music-stand susceptible of assuming, when not in use, a compact form for the carriage thereof; and at the same time the construction and arrangement of the parts of the appliance are such as to permit of the same readily assuming an operative position, in which it is so held, with the least amount of time consumed and labor attending upon the manipulation of the parts for permitting thereof.

Having thus described the nature and objects of my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
