Application To aZZ whom it may concern Be it know that T, BURMAN AZRIKAN, a subject of the Czar of Russia, residing at Buffalo, in the county of Erie, State of N w York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Folding Desks and Chairs, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the figures of reference marked thereon.

My invention relates to improvements in a combined folding desk and chair.

The object of my invention is to provide a combined desk and chair which can be easily and quickly folded into a rocking chair when not in use, and at the same time having a neat appearance when used as a desk or rocking chair.

Another object of my invention is to provide a desk of this character of simple construction and operation and having certain details of structure hereinafter more fully set forth.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my in proved desk and chair when in use. Fig. 2 is a side elevation, showing the desk and chair folded. to form a rocking chair. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of Fig. 1, taken transverse of the desk. 1, showing the parts in the act of being folded into the rocking chair.

Referring now to the drawings, 1, 2, 3 and 4 represent the four legs of the desk, and which, as shown, are of a curved form to form the rockers when folded, as hereinafter more fully described. The legs 1 and 2 are pivoted together at 5, intermediate their ends, and the legs 3 and 4 are likewise pivoted together at 6, intermediate their ends. The lower ends of the legs 2 and 4 are connected together by a metal rod 7, and the lower ends of the legs 1 and 3 are connected together by means of the bar 8, whereby they are spaced apart and rigidly held. The upper ends of the legs 1 and 3 are pivoted to plates 9 carried by the sides 10 and 11 of the desk proper 12. The top of the desk, as shown, is slightly slanted and is formed in two sections 13 and 14. The section 14 is hinged at 15 to the section 13 and is adapted to fold up and form the back of the rocking chair when it is folded into the same.

which is provided intermediate the, legs, with loop 17. The sides 10 and 11 of the desk are provided with notches 18 adapted to receive said rod and whereby the rear end of the desk is supported. of the desk is provided with a springpressed latch 16, into which the loop 17 of the rod 16 is pressed and held, whereby the desk is looked upon the rod and can not he accidentally moved to allow the same to be collapsed. Pivoted to the inside of the legs 1 and 3,

adjacent their lower ends, are the curved arms 19 and 20 which extend forward beyond the lower ends of the legs 2 and 4. These arms are provided with notches 21 in their lower faces, which receive the bar 7 whereby they are more rigidly held and which also serve to brace the desk legs, as will be clearly seen.

The chair of my improved device consists of the legs 22 and 23, which are pivoted at their forward ends to the strips19 and 20 and connected together by the strips 24 and 25. Pivoted to the said legs 22 and 23, at 23, are the legs 26 and 27, the lower ends of which are connected by a strip 28. The upper ends of the legs 26 and 27 are connected by a bar 29, which is adapted to fit into a notch 30 carried by the lower face of the seat proper 31. The seat 31, as shown, is pivotally mounted upon a bar 32, carried by, the upper part of the legs 22 and 23. These legs, as shown, extend upwardly above the seat and form a support for the back 33 of the chair. The legs 22 and 23, as shown, are pivoted to the legs 26 and 27, just above the strip 24, and said strip forms a stop to limit the outward movement of the legs 26 and 27.

The edges of the desk 12, at the back and sides, are provided with the sides 34 and a back 35. The sides 34 are provided with curved bars 36 and 37 which are pivoted at 38 and are folded into the position shown in Fig. 1, when the desk is in use, and when used as a rocking chair they are swung forward to form the arms thereof, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings.

The top of the desk, as heretofore stated, is formed in two sections 13 and 14, and the section 14 hinged at 15 to the section 13. This allows the section 14 to be folded upwardly into a vertical position to form the back of the rocking chair, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. This section 14 at each end is The bottom provided with a sliding bolt .ll which is adapted to enter openings 39 in the sides 34, whereby the same is locked in a vertical position to form a rigid back for the chair when used as a rocker.

When the parts are in the position shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings and it is desired to fold up'the desk the seat 31 is raised to bring the notches 30 out of the bar Q9 and the legs 26 and 27, as well as the legs 22 and 28, are folded into an approximately parallel position and the whole seat or chair is folded forward beneath the desk and the seat proper rests upon the transverse bar 8, whereby the same is supported.

The catch 16 is released, so that the loop 17 may be swung downwardly and the desk released from the legs 2 and The rear end of the desk is slightly raised to bring the notches 18 out of the rod 16 and the legs 2 and 4 are moved rearwardly and the legs 1 and 3 forwardly until the curved legs are in approximately a horizontal position and form the rockers for the rocking chair. The rear section 1% of the top of the desk is swung upwardly and looked, as heretofore described, which forms a back for the chair.

lVhile if have shown specific means for converting the desk into the seat and back of the rocking chair, it will be understood that the same could be varied without departing from my invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:

1. The combination with a desk having a folding top to form a back, folding legs supporting the desk, and said legs pivoted and arranged to form rockers when folded.

2. Zlhe combination with a desk top formed in two sections, the rear section menses pivoted to the front section and adapted to fold into a vertical position to form a back and intermediately pivoted curved legs supporting the desk top and so constructed and arranged to form rockers when folded, substantially shown and described.

3. The combination with a folding desk top adapted to form a seat and back, curved intermediately pivoted folding legs supporting the desk top, forwardly extending pivoted arms carried by the legs, a folding chair carried by said arms, and adapted to fold beneath the desk in a horizontal flat position, the legs of the desk pivoted and arranged to fold downwardly, lowering the lesk and forming rockers, substantially as shown and described.

4. The combination with a folding desk top adapted to form a seat and back, inter mediately pivoted and curved legs two of which are pivotally connected to the front end of the desk, a rod connecting the upper end of the other legs and having a loop intermediate the legs, the rear end of the desk having notches to receive the said rod, a latch carried by the desk and locking the loop thereto, arms pivoted to two of the legs and extending forwardly beyond the other two legs, a folding chair having two of its legs pivoted to the arms and adapted to fold in a horizontal position below the desk, and the legs of the desk curved and forming rockers when folded to lower the desk.
