UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MICHAEL HOFFMAN WILSON, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
CAKE OF SOAP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent'No. 540,825, dated June 11, 1895. I
Application filed October 18, 1894- Seiial No.- 52 6,253. (No specimens.)
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, MICHAEL HOFFMAN WILSON, of the city of Brooklyn,-in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Soap, of which the following is a specification.
This invention consists in a cake of soap madeup of different superposed layers exhibiting different designs, figures or characters, the said layers as washed away in using the soap presenting a series of dissolving views.
In the accompanying drawings, Figures 1, 2, 3, and 4 illustrate one example of my invention, and Figs. 1*, 2*, 3*, and 4* represent an- Figs. 1 and 1* represent sections taken directly through cakes of soap, exhibiting the several layers of which they are composed. Figs. 2 and 3 represent, respectively', top and bottom views of the cake shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 4 represents a section parallel with the layers of which the said cake is composed. Figs. 2* and 3* are respectively top and bottom views of the cake shown in Fig.'1*. Fig. 4* represents a section taken parallel with the layers of the latter cake.
The simplest form of my invention is that shown in Figs. 1, 2, 3, and 4, in which the cake is composed of three layers A B C, in which are produced three different designs, figures or characters. These may be produced in any of the known ways of inlaying soaps, as for instance, by forming within the layer a cavity representing the design, figure or character to be produced and introducing soap of a different color in to these cavities as is illustrated in the layers A and O; or the outline of a design, figure or character may be produced by numerous small perforations through the layer as illustrated in .the layer B in Fig. 4.
together.
The exam ple of my invention shown in Figs. 1*, 2*, 3*, and 4* only differs from that shown in Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 4 in that the several layers A B O in which the different designs, figures or characters are produced, are inserted and embodied within a frame or band D of soap which may be of the same color as the layers or of a difierent color therefrom. The diderent layers of soap may themselves be made of different colors.
I have only illustrated my invention in its simplest form, but it will be obvious that the number of layers of which the cake or bar of soap is composed may be very considerable according to their thickness, each layer presenting a different design, figure or character.
The cake or bar may thus be made to contain a numerous series of advertisements which
