NITED STATES PATENT. FFIQE.
BRANDRAM B. USSHER, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
SHAWL-STRAP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 538,988, dated May 7, 1895.
Application filed August 10, 1894- Serial No- 19,936. (No model.) I
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, BRANDRAM B. USSHER, of Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shawl-Straps, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in shawl straps, and the object of my invention is to provide a shawl strap which may be used with an extended strap to pass around large bundles or, as a double strap, to pass twice around smaller bundles or, as a double strap to pass around a bundle over two dimensions thereof, and also to provide in combination therewith smaller straps by which to attach small bundles to the large bundle and carry the same therewith; and my invention consists in certain features of novelty hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
Figure I represents myimproved shawlstrap as an extended strap adapted to pass around a large bundle. Fig. II-represents my improved shawl strap as a double strap adapted to passtwice around the smaller bundle, showing also the short strap for carrying small bundles in the same package. Fig. III represents my improved shawl-strap as adapted topass around smaller bundles over two dimensions thereof. Fig. IV represents one means by which the short strap may be secured to the main strap.
Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
1 represents the handle formed as in the ordinary shawl strap. To one end of the handle is attached the ordinary buckle 2, and to tached to the buckle, by the opening 9 therein.
By this buckle the strap is adapted to be used as a double strap as shown in Fig. III, the strap 3 passing around the handle in one direction and engaging the tongue 6, and the strap 10 passing around the bundle at right angles thereto and engaging the tongue 7. The strap 10 is provided at its other end with the buckle 11 and carries on it the sliding keeper 12.
13, 14 represent the short straps, when not in use carried under the keepers represented by 15 and 16. When in use said straps are withdrawn from the keepers and passed through the buckles 2 and 5 as shown in Fig.
strap .3 is engaged at the buckle ll. When used as a double strap as shown in Fig. II the strap 3 is passed around the bundle and engaged with its buckle 2 and the strap 10 is also passed around the bundle and engaged with-its buckle 5, the buckle 11 being passed through the, buckle 5. It may also be used as a double strap as shown in Fig. III the strap 3 being passed around the bundle and engaging one of the tongues of the buckle 5 and the strap 10 passed at right angles to the strap 3 around the bundle and engaged with the other tongue of the buckle 5 thus making a neat, compact and safe fastening for the bundle, and presenting one of the principal advantages of my improved shawl strap.
Having thus fully described my improvements, what I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A shawl strap comprising the buckle con sisting of the ring 5 and the tongues 6 and '7, a handle secured to said buckle and connected with the tongue 6, a strap 3 connected with the handle, and a strap 10 secured to the buckle and connected with the tongue 7, and a buckle 11 on the end of the strap 10 substantially as shown and described and for the purpose set forth.
