T0 all whom z't 'may concern: n
Be it known that 1, FREDERICK W. HOL- LAND, a citizen of the nited States, residing at theborough of rooklyn, in the city of New York, county of Kings, and State Of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Kits, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in adjustable kits and """especially to that type embodying a retaining strap which is threaded selectively through a plurality of slots or eyes formed in a strap-engaging means secured to the case to provide a series of article-receiving loops in which various articles are disposed and subsequent to which said strap is pulled to contract the loops and thereby tighten the grip of the strap about the confined articles.
The principal object of the invention resides in a simple lock or securing means for the free end of the retaining strap by which the same is firmly held against slipping and the loops against consequential enlargement which would necessarily-loosen the articles contained in the kit.
The invention seeks to provide a simple lock in the form of a pair of transversely arranged fiaps which is secured to the casing so that said fiaps may be folded across the backwardly folded free end of the retaining strap and secured by a detachable fastener fork securely locking the strap against slipping.
In the drawing--- 'Figure l is a fragmentary plan view of a kitembodying the present invention and showing the same operative;
Fig. 2 is a similar view in which the locking or securing strap is inoperative; and j Fig. 3 is a transverse section on line 3-3 Of Fig. l further illustrating the invention.
Referring more in detail to the drawings,
the body or'casing 1 of the kit is sheet-like Specification of Letters atent.
ADJUSTABLE KIT.
retaining strap 4 through the vslotsy or eyesk 5 and beneathsaid strip. The slots or eyes 5 are formed transversely in said strip at practically regular intervals throughout yits length. The retaining or adjustable strap et is anchored beneath the inner end of the strip 2 and is adapted for having its free end selectively threaded down and up through the slots 5 to form artiele-receiving loops 6 of variable sizes and distances apart.
A locking or securing strap 7 is arranged transversely across the outer end .of the strip 2, being stitched at spaced points intermediate its ends to provide a central loop or passage 8 and end fiaps 9. Vhen the retaining strap 4 has been formed into the desired size and number of loops 6, the free end is threaded through the passage 8 and then given a return bend or fold to VOverlie Patented May *7, 1918.`
Application filed February 11, 1918. Serial No. 216,542.
the locking strap 7 subsequent to which the i end flaps 9 are brought over the backwardly folded free end of strap 4 and detachably connected b v a snap fastener 10, the head part being fixed to one flap and the socket part attached to the companion flap. They free end is thus firmly and securely fastened to hold the strap 4 against slipping through the eyes 5 and thereby loosening the strap about the articles through the consequential enlargement of the loops 6.
The flaps 9 are readily connected and unlocked by the simple arrangement provided. The strap 4 is firmly held from loosening its grip upon the articles, is secured firmly both for locking the strap and for holding the free end out ofthe way.
The lock is simple and neat, requiring prac tically no additional kit space, and it may be economically applied to the kit during manufacture with no appreciable added eX- ense.
l. In an adjustable kit or the like, a cas`- ing, a strap secured at one end to the casing and having itsl opposite end free, a fastening strap for the free end of the first named strap, means to secure the fastening strap to the casing at spaced points to form a loop for the reception of the free end por tion of the first named strap, said fastening straphaving each of its ends free and of a length to mutually overlap, and interengaging means borne by the respective ends of the fastening strap, the free end of the first named strap being adapted to be superimposed on and over the loop-forming part of the fastening strap and to be held thereon by the overlapped and fastened ends of the latter, the securing means for the fastening strap providing pivotal points for the respective ends of the fastening strap to allow such ends to be moved about such points to locl and remove the free end of the first named strap Without threading of the latter.
2. In combination with va casing or the like, and a strap secured at one end thereto, and having its opposite end free, means for holding said free end of the strap including a fastening strap, means to secure said fastening strap to the casing at points spaced a distance apart lequaling approximately the Width of the first named strap, said fastening strap having its ends free and of such length so as to overlap each other, and inter-engaging fastening means borne by the respective free ends of the fastening strap whereby to secure such ends together, said free ends of the fastening strap being movable about the respective securing means thereof so as to enable the free end of the first named strap to be placed upon and removed from over the fastening strap by moving said free ends of the fastening straps about said securing means as pivots, whereby to allow the free end of the rst named strap to be placed upon and removed from the fastening strap without threading.
