Description

(No Model.)
S. KLEIN.
FOLDING B0X.
Patented July 20, 1897.
Ii 2:2* lrbg i-m In ven/faz? UNTTEE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SOPIIIE KLEIN, OF ALLEGIIENY, PENNSYLVANIA.
FOLDING BOX.
SPECIFICATIGN forming part of Letters Patent No. 586,819, dated July 20, 1897.
Application filed December 16, 1896. Serial No. 615,911. (No model.)
Be it known that I, SOPHIE KLEIN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing` at Allegheny, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Boxes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the aceoinpanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in folding boxes, and relates particularlyto a box adapted to be employed for hats, bonnets, and the like, and has for its object to provide a box for the above purpose that maybe reduced to a perfectly fiat form when not in use; furthermore, that will be extremely simple in its construction, strong, durable, effectual in its operation, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
`With the above and other objects in view the invention finally consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more specifically described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In describing the invention in detail reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specicatiomand wherein like letters of reference indicate similar parts throughout both views, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of the box in the built-up form. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the box before being folded.
Referring now to the drawings by referenceletters, a indicates the base, having formed integral therewith the sides and c and top (Z, having a flap e, adapted to fold between a strap f, carried by the side c and the inner face of the said side. The base also has formed therewith the ends g g, having' flaps h 71,7 Zt Zt, and Z Z, said flaps ZZ h carrying eyelets m m on their inner face and near the end 'of same7 and the flaps Zr. Zt carry hooks n n to The box may be composed of pasteboard, leather,or any suitable material, and stamped from a single piece of material, the breaks between the different portions being joined by the same operation. To fold the box, the ends are brought to the vertical position and the flaps 71. 7L and 7c 7c folded in, where they are fastened bythe hooks and eyes. The sides Z2 and c are next brought to the vertical position, the top CZ folded across, and the flap e inserted between the strap f and side c. The flaps ZZare then folded across the top and fastened by means of the cords o 0.
Vhen empty, the box may be unfolded in the manner shown in Fig. 2, thus permitting a number of the boxes to be folded in such a manner as to consume very little space in storing.
It will also be noted that various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the general spirit of my invention.
IIavin g fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure byLetters Patent, is-- In a blank for a folding box consisting of the bottom a, the sides l), c, top e, end pieces g, provided with flaps 71, Zt which extend from opposite edges of the end pieces, and the Iiaps Z, which project outwardly from the outer edges of the end pieces, and at right angles to the flaps k,- the side c being provided with the strap f, and the iiaps h 7c, with fastening devices for connecting them, and the pointed flaps Z with the cords o; the points of the flaps Z meeting upon the top of the box, and being` fastened in position by the cords o, so as to form a double thickness of material at this point, substantially as shown.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SOPHIE KLEIN.
