UNITED STATES CHARLES LOIBNER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
TIE CASE on CONTAINER.
Application filed January 22, 1927: Serial No. 162,859.
This invention relates to cases or containers for neckties, such forexalnple as four-in-hand, bow ties and the like or for any other elongated fabric body or article, requiring careful packing to avoid creasing or wrinkling thereof; and the object of the invention is to provide a case or container in which neckties and the like may be placed in an extended or folded position in such manner that the ends of the tie or ties or other articles, and particularly the ends of neckties, may be packed and carried without danger of wrinkling or creasing except where the tie may be folded at the neckband portion thereof; a further object being to provide adjustable means for supporting one or more stacks of ties in the case or container; a further object being to provide means for protecting and retaining the ends of the ties mounted in the case or container rality of foldably connected parts, with means for retaining said parts in folded position to form said case, and said parts being adapted to be extended to facilitate the placement of ties int-he case, and the removal of ties therefrom; and with these and other objects in view, the invention consists in a device of the class and for the purpose specified, which is simple in construction, efficient. in use, and which is constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accom= panying drawing forms apart, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Fig. l is a perspective view of a case made according to my invention, with the parts in a partially extended position, and illustratin i the method of its use.
ig. 1 is a small view showing the case in a fully extended position.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the case shown in Fig. 1 in a partially folded or col lapsed position.
Fig. 3 is an endview of the case shown in Figs. 1 and 2 in a folded position; and,
Fig.4 is a perspective view of a part of a suitcase or other container, showing means for supporting and retaining ties and the like in predetermined position in connection therewith.
In Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive, I have shown one method of carrying my invention into effect, which consists in providing a case or body 5 wh1ch may be composed of fabric of any kind or class and including leather and imi tation leathers, ora combination of different materials, especially as regard to the inner and outer faces thereof, and thesematerials may be entirely flexible or may be semi-rigid as may be desired. i The case comprises a central body 6 which is of greater length thanwidth, and is provided at its ends with flaps 7 foldable onto the body 6 on the lines 7, and the sides of the body 6 are provided with flaps 8 fold able onto the body 6 and the flaps 7 on .the lines 8. The central outer edges of the flaps 7 have one part 9 of snap fastening devices adapted to engage the other part 9 thereof on the inner face of the central body 6 to retain the flaps 7 against displacement and to divide the side portions of the flaps 7 to form two pockets at each end of the case or the central body portion 6 thereof, into which the ends of neckties, bow ties and the like 10 are "adapted to be placed, said pockets serving to retain the ends of the ties'against displacement. The outer sides of the pockets are closed when the flaps 8 are folded inwardly upon the flaps 7, and the body 6 as partially seen in Fig. 1, and as seen in Fig. 2. a
The outer faces of the'flaps 8 adjacent the lines of folding 8" are provided with two snap fastener parts 1111 in common alinement and adapted to be coupled together as seen in Fig. 3, whenthe entire case is folded centrally and longitudinally of the body 6 to bring the flaps 8 one upon the other as seen in Fig. 3 of the drawing.
I also provide centrally and transversely ofthe body 6, a strap 12, the central portion of which is secured to the central part of the body 6 as seen at 13. The ends of the strap 12 are provided with a plurality of socket members 14 of snap fastening devices adapted to engage the other part of a snap fastening device, secured to the central body 10 adja-' cent the lines of folding 8*. In other words, either one of the three devices 1i shown may engage a single device at each side of the body 6. p
It will be understood that the ends of the strap 12 pass over the central portions in the packing and transportation of neckties,
bow ties and similar articles of apparel, and have provided a definite means of maintaining the ties in proper condition when in transportation, and especially for traveling men, tourists and others. It will also be understood that my improved case may be used by the manufacturer or manufacturers of ties and like merchandise as a container, and further as a means for stimulating the sale of one or more ties, and providing in addition to the sale of the ties, the sale of a case suitable for transportation of ties and like articles.
Likewise, my invention is not necessarily limited to the construction or production of a case itself, as the same structure may be incorporated in and as part of a suitcase or other container. In Fig. 4 of the drawing, 1 have indicated at 15, a part of a suitcase, l6 representing the cover thereof in an open osition to show its inner face. In practice,
provide the end portions of the inner face of the cover 16 with members 17 divided centrally as seen at 18 by stitching or in any other desired manner to form pockets 19 into which the ends of neckties or other articles are adapted to be placed. Secured centrally of the inner face of the cover 16 as seen at 20, is astrapfll similar to the strap 12 shown in Fig. 1 ofthe drawing. The ends of the strap have snap fastening devices 22 for the adjustment of said ends to compensate for the number of ties suported beneath each end of the strap memlier and into pockets 19.
The sides of the cover 16 may also be provided on the inner face with flaps 23 foldable inwardly upon the members 17 to retain the ties against accidental displacement. These members may constitute the usual flaps employed in suitcases of conventional form or may be specially constructed, and provided with snap fastening devices 24 engaging similar devices 25 on the members 17 to retain the flaps 23 in closed position.
Many other uses and adaptations of the invention will present themselves to those skilled in the art, the showing in Fig. 4 of the drawing being merely illustrative of the possible applications and uses of my invention. It will also be understood that the case, as a separate article of manufacture as seen in Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive, and especially theouter face thereof, may be ornamented or designed to produce an attractive, rich and ornamental appearance, as in other cases such as cases for toilet articles, now in com men use. a
, While I have shown and described certain methods of carrying my invention into effect, it will be understood that I am not necessarily limitedto the details of construction herein shown and described, and various changes therein, and modifications thereof, may be made within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Haring fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
