Fig. 2 represents a vertical central section ot' the staging as seen at Fig. 1. Fig. .'5 represents a perspective view ot' a moditication ot' the` mode ot' attaching or supporting the staging, and Fig. 4 represents a vertical central section ot' Fig. 3.
In the drawings, A A represent two pieces of plank provided with holes n. Near the top ot' pieces A A project pieces ll, which are supA ported by braces l). lieees A are designed to be fastened to the side ot' a building by thenid of two other pieces, (l C, in connection with bolts 1') E.
1" is a crosspiece provided with two bolts, G (l, which, passing through piece l-`, rest in grooves eut in the top of pieces il, with their ends proiecting through pieces A A to receive the nuts b.
Small staples prevent bolts G t'roin rising up, while collars c' are placed upon their outer ends between the piece l-` and Ishoulders 1,cnt in the ends ot' pieces B, whereby piece `l` is supported a short distance l'roni the ends otpieces l, as shown at c.
A metal frame, ll, mounted upon piece l", and is retained thereon by means oi theI lipsf and g, which clasp the back ot' piece 1-`, lip f passing down from the top, while lip y passes up from the bottom. The lower partoft'ratne 1l is made to extend to the right and lct't, with a small ft'ietiolrroller, l1, at each end, as l'ully shown in the drawings, while the upper part is elevated,so as to receive. another t'retionV roll, 1', which rests and runs upon the top ot piece 1". .lhe frontot' frame ll is also so made as to support a pnlle \,j, having two grooves cut in the periphery, as seen iu Fig. 2..
'lo thebottoin of frame ll is attached uhook` k, bymeans ot" which the tackle I and work'- 1nan'sbox J. arevsuspeuded t'rolu metal frame i 1I, which restsA ano' runs upon piece 1 The operation is as follows: Pieces A are placed upon one side, ot' a uimlow-fratno and the pieces C upon the, other side, when, by means ot' bolts l) and their nuts, the ends of pieces A and C are clamped tightly to the building, as shown in the drawings, where )I represents the top ot' the wimlowt`ratne, and N thehot tom thereof. The workman now takes his` position in box J, and by means of rope O he eau raise or lower himself, while by means ot' the cords or ropes m he caumove himself to the. right or lett, since ropes m are fastened one at eaeh end of piece F, as seen at s, and are then passed toand overt'i'ictiolrrollj. The rope that is fastened to the right-hand end of piece l" passesdown upon the left-hand side of roll i, while the rope that; is fastened to the lett-hand end ot piece 1" passes down upon the right-hand side ot' roll j, whereby when the workman wishes to move to the right he pulls the let'thand rope m, and vice versa. A fric tiouroll, L, is attached to a projection from the bottom of the -workmans box to facilitate the movement ot' the box upon the side ot' the building. A caster-wheel may be used in place ot roll L.
In ease it is desired to have the stagiugsuspcnded from the top ot' a tlat roof, the pieces l may he used without the pieces l), A, and U, iu which case, however, they should be of sutleient length to extend upon the roof seme distance, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, Sheet Il, of the accompanying,r drawings.
The workman's box is provided with eyes or staples n, through which ropes nl m and 0 pass, and to which they maybe made t'astwhendef sii-ed. I
liece F may be ot any desired length, and have any necessary number of supports. such as shown in the drawings.
ltl will be observed that by means ot collar e' a space, c, is left t'or lip y, whereby the metal frame or carriage ll can be run to the right or let't past the supports l, so that the workman can, atter the staging is once arranged, pertorln work upon any part, ot' the building below piece l". 'lhe workman can sit or stand, as he may pret'er, while at. work, a scat, K, boilu.r attached to the middle of box J.
'lhis staging can be used to advantage both upon the inside und outside of a building, and
