To all whom, it muy concern:
Be it known. that I, lJOSEPH ALBERT BRECKON, manufacturer, ofthe city of Toe, i ronto, in the county of York, in the Province '5 of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fire-Es capes, of which the following is the specification.,1.
My invention relates to improvements in ro4 fire-escapes;and 'theobject of the invention is to devise a simple, strong,` durable, and
. safe escape which may be readilyicontrolled l when ascending or descending; and it consists, essentially, ofanelevatorcar or cage,
.15 suitable U-shaped guideways securedto the side of the building andin which the same is guided as it ascends4 ordescends,'ropes attached to the cage at each side and passing overpulleys under vthe eaves and provided zo with counterweights verticallyT movable in tubes secured lto the sides of the building, a walking-beam secured tothe top of the cage and ropes vor chains connected to the same and passing up through pulleys underfthe z 5 eaves and down through the cage-and around a pulley at thegroundA and up tothe .bottom of the cage, and a controlling-rope controllers, vand brake, the parts being arranged and.
