BOX FOR PILLS.
No. 535,054. Patented Mar. 5, 1895'.
UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
MORLAND MIGHOLL DESSAU, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO ROBERTEVERS DAISH, OF EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND.
BOX FOR PILLS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 535,054, dated March 5, 1895.
Application filed October 31, 1894. Serial No. 527,502. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MORLAND MICHOLL DESSAU, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Boston, Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boxes for Pills and the Like, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to boxes for containing pills and the like, and Iwill describe it as a pill box.
The box is made in the form of a life buoy or life saver, and its construction will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a plan partlyin section, Fig. 2, an edge view, and Fig. 3 a cross section of a box constructed according to this invention. Fig. 4: is a side view; and Figr5 a cross section showing the box open. Fig. 6 is a cross section showing other means of fastening the two parts together. V
Like letters represent like parts throughout the drawings.
The box is made of two similar ring-like parts or halves A and B adapted to rotate one upon the other, entirely round it necessary, but preferably within fixed limits. The center G of the box thus formed is entirely opcn like a life saver and the pills are contained in the annular space D formed by the junction of the two halves in each of which is an annular channel forming half of the complete annular space D.
The two halves A and B may be held together by any convenient means-say as indicated in Figs. 3 and 5-by'screwing the two parts together at E the inner edges Fbeing half-checked into each other as shown. In putting this box together the two halves are screwed together and then the pins or projections G and H in the one halfare inserted and engage with the pin orprojection I of the I When the openingJ is in the position shown in Fig.4 it is uncovered and a pill can be ex tracted, but when it is turned round so as to be under the lip or overlapping edge K of the other part of the box the'hole is covered and the box is closed.
The lip K may be arranged in any convenient manner but in order to carry out the idea of the life buoy it is formed with the cord L festooned as shown and apparently bound to the body of the life saverby the fine grip by which to turn it. However, so long as the proper cover is provided for the opening J it is immaterial how this is arranged.
It will be understood that the box can be charged with pills through the opening J as well as the pills extracted by the same means.
Another way of connecting the two parts instead of screwing them as previously described would be to make them as shown in Fig. 6 where an eyelet or ringN is placed in the inner opening 0 and curved over so as to take a bearing upon the two parts A and B and thus prevent them separating. In this case, instead of the three pins GH and I one of them Or working in a slot N in the ringN is sufficient, a supplementary pin 0 or equivalent being employed to secure the ring to the partA of the box the pin G being secured in the part B of the box.
observed that the opening J is completely closed by the lip K which is over it, while in Figs. 4 and 5 the parts are so turned that the opening J is uncovered by the lip K being turned to one side so as to clear it.
It will be readily appreciated that other means may be employed for connecting the two parts. For example, instead of the central portion 0 being entirely open each part A and B may be provided with a Web or disk fitting against each other and connected by a rivet, eyelet or the like or instead of complete disks bars crossing and connected together as above described could be employed.
I claim-- 1. In a box in the form of a life saver or life buoy, the combination of two similar grooved ring-like parts rotatably connected together,' and one of them having an opening for the admission or extraction of the conlapping M and this also affords a convenient In Fig. 6, as also in Figs. 1 and 3 it will be buoy, comprising twosimilar ring-like parts rotatably connected together by a ring or eyelet fitting Within the central opening of the parts, one of said parts having a lateral opening and the other a lip or flange adapted to cover or expose said opening, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand in the presence of the two subscribing Witnesses.
MORLAND MICHOLL DESSAU.
