SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 534,824, dated February 26, 1895. Application filed January 14,1895. Serial No. 534,802. (No specimens.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, SAMUEL GABRIEL, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Envelopes, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates toan improved envelope for inclosing and storing various paper articles, said envelope being made of paper,

.pasteboard, or other suitable material, so as to representa trunk, basket, or other suitable article; and the invention consists of an envelope formed of paper or other suitable material, provided with an upper and a lower flap folded in parallel lines with the body, the upper flap being made of rhombic shape and the body having at two diagonally opposite corners suitable inclinations, while thelower flap is provided with a downwardly-extending. wing at one side, the outer and innersurfaces of the upper flap representing the lid of a trunk, basket, or other suitable article, while the outer surface of the lower flap represents the body of a trunk, or thelike, as will be fully described hereinafter and finally pointed out in the claims.

Referring to the drawings, A represents the body or main portion of the blank from which the envelope is made. The body A is cut off at the two diagonally-opposite corners to, a, and made in one integral piece with a lower flap B and an upper flap 0, the former being of less width than the body A and provided at its right hand side with a wing B, the edges of which extend downwardly and are made at the same inclination as the lower corner a of the body A to the base of the same. The upper flap is made of rhombic shape and of such width that when the same is folded down on the upper part of the body A, it closes the part left uncovered by the lower or bottom flap, as shown in Fig. 1. The lower flap B, B, is attached to the body A by being pasted or otherwise fastened to its opposite, (parallel,) edges, the upper flap being also fastened in any manner to the lower flap or to the body A, so that any suitable articles of flat shape which are desired to be placed in the envelope can be retained in the same. The exterior and interior surface of the upper flap 0 is printed in colors in the design of the lid of a trunk, while the lower flap B, B, is finished in the perspective shape of the body of a trunk, the main body being also provided at its upper left-hand corner with a suitable imitation of the interior of a trunk, so that the envelope has the appearance of a trunk in which articles are placed.

It is obvious that in place of a trunk a wicker-basket, or any similar article, may be represented, in which case the bottom and top-flaps are reproduced in the perspective of the top, and front of the article that is desired to be represented.

My improved envelope is adapted for differentpurposes, and forms an attractive envelope for holding paper dolls and other toys for childrens use.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. An envelope, composed of a main-body cut off at two diagonally-opposite corners, a lower flap provided with a wing at the side adjacent to the lower cut ofi corner of the body portion, the upper and lower edges of the wing being made at the same inclination as the cut off corner, and an upper flap having its side edges at an inclination corresponding to the upper cut off corner of the main body, said lower and upper flaps being made integral with the main-body and finished in such a manner as to represent a suitable article, substantially as set forth.

2. An envelope, consisting of one integral blank, composed of a main-body having two of its diagonally-opposite corners cut off, a lower flap extending along the base of the main-body and provided with a downwardlyinclined wing adjacent to the lower out off corner and forming the same angle of inclination with the base of the main-body and an upper flap extending from the upper edge of the main-body at the same angle of inclination as the cut off upper corner, the outer surface of the lower flap representing a perspective of the body of a trunk, basket, or other article, while the front and rear surfaces of the upper flap represent the inner and outer perspectives of the lid of a trunk or other article,s0 that when the flaps are folded over the main-portion the representation of a trunk, basket or other article is obtained, substantially as set forth.
