Description
(No Model.) G. H. KUGLER.
BLIND STOP. I N0. 532,974. .Patented Jan. 22, 1895.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES H. KUGLER, or SCHENEOTADY, NEW YORK.
BLIND-STOP.
PEGIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 532,974, dated January 22, 1895.
Application filed September 20, 1894- Serial No. 523,597. (No model.)
My invention relates to window shutters or blinds of that class or description in which the slats of the same are pivoted to the siderails thereof and connected together at their centers, by a vertical rod, whereby said slats may be opened and closed by manipulating said rod.
The object of the invention is to provide an improved lock or catch, for use in connection with said shutters so constructed and arranged that when the said rod is operated to close the slats, it may be located in place so that it is impossible to open the slats from the outside.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1, is a side elevation of a window blind or shutter showing my improvement applied thereto, the slats being open. Fig. 2, is a similar view the slats being closed. Fig. 3, is a detail perspective view of the lock, showing the catch or latch and the base plate disconnected from each other.
In the said drawings the reference numeral 1, designates the side rails and 2, the bottom I rail of a window blind or shutter;
The numeral 3, designates the slats'pivoted at each end to the side rails and connected at their centers by means of a vertical rod 4.
Secured to the window sill is a semi-circular base plate 5, provided with a boss 6, in
which is pivoted by, means of a pivot pin 7, a
; bears against the said plate.
catch or lever 8, having an arm 9. A spring 10, is interposed between this arm and the plate 5, consisting of a piece of spring metal, bent over upon itself one arm of which is secured to the'arm 'of the lever while the other The other arm of said lever is made in the form of a segment formed with a flange 12, which serves as a finger hold by which it may be rotated, and on its inner face said segment is formed with a cam 13, which is adapted to engage under the lower end of the vertical rod.
The operation is as follows: When the rod 4, is elevated to close the slats the lever is rotated by means of the finger hold, so that the cam will engage under the lower end of the rod as seen in Fig. 2, thereby securly locking opened from the outside. 'By turning the lever in a reverse direction the cam will be disengaged from the rod so that the latter can be lowered and the slats opened. The spring 10, by its tension serves to hold the lever in place when locked.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim,is I
As an improved article a blind stop comprising the semicircular base plate provided with a boss, in combination with the lever pivoted thereto one end of which is provided with a bent spring, the free arm of which is adapted to bear on said plate, and the other end of said lever being formed with a cam segment and an outwardly extending flange serving as a finger hold, substantially'as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
