TR s11 ADJUSTER. No. 562,075. Patented Jam 16, 1896.
/- I F r l WITNESSES. INVENTOR MWJW I XMM 6J erated, and by which they can be simultane- UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CHARLES EDWVIN FRYE, OF LACONIA, NEWV HAMPSHIRE, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF TO THE LAOONIA CAR COMPANY, OF NEWV HAMPSHIRE.
TRANSOM-SASH ADJUSTER..
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 562,075, dated June 16, 1896.
Application filed October 26, 1895.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES EDWIN FRYE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Laconia, in the county of Belknap and State of New Hampshire, have invented a new and useful Ventilating-Sash Adjuster and Lock, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in ventilatin g-sash adjusters and locks,by which the sash of two windows are simultaneously opened or closed, and by which said sash can be securely locked when closed; and the objects of my improvements are, first, to provide a device which will firmly unite two separate and independent sashes, and by which they can be simultaneously swung or operously locked when closed; secondly, to produce a device which can be readily and securely attached to both sashes and the frame, can be easily operated, is inexpensive inconstruction, and is durable. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanyin g drawings, in which Figure 1 shows two windows W partly opened in a frame F. Fig. 2 is an enlarged cross-section on the dotted line A B. Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross-section on the dotted line A B, showing the window WV closed and effectively locked by the position of the link L. Fig. at shows the guide G with the side broken away, showing the position of the spring S pressing against the pull P.
Similar letters refer to similarparts throu ghout the several views.
F refers to the window-frame,into which are fitted the windows NV. The windows work freely in said frame on a pivot or post A, secured to the middle of the ends of the window-sash, said pivot turning in a socket B, made to receive them, which are secured on the window-frame, at the proper place to receive them, (said pivots,) by means of screws.
My invention consists of a bridge 0, which extends from window to window and has as a part thereof two projections or ears c 6 extending therefrom in opposite directions, which are attached to the two windows to be operated upon by means of screws at the upper inner ends of said windows, as shown in Serial no. 567,013. (No model.)
link L. The other end of the link L is fitted to and works in a slot f made in the upper end of the pull P, to which it is connected by means of a pin or bolt 9. Said pull P has the slot f extend far enough to allow the window W to fully open, when said link L strikes against the bottom of said slot to prevent the window from opening too far or striking against the frame when open sufficiently. The lower end of said pull P has thereon a knob or hooked projection H, by which it is pulled down or forced up in opening or closing the windows. Said pull P works through a guide G, which is secured to the windowframe F below the sashes and midway between by means of screws. Said guide G is cored out or made hollow under or back of the pull P, where it passes through said guide G. Into said hollow part of said guide G is fitted a spring S, (see Fig. 4,) which presses against said pull P and holds it and the windows in position by means of the friction created thereby.
I operate my invention by pulling down the pull P, which swings the windows WV on their pivots a in opening them, until the link L rests on the lower part of .the slot f in the pull P. The window is held open by the spring S, pressing against the pull P. In closing the windows I press up the pull P until they are closed, in which position they are securely locked by the then position of the link L.
I claim- In a window-sash adjuster the combination of the bridge 0, when said bridge is placed above the line of the single pivots and moves outand in with the sashes themselves, with its ears 6, e, to engage said bridge to the two separate sashes, and its ears D, D, to receive the operating-link L, in combination with the link L, pull P, and guide G, with its. spring S, all substantially as described.
CHARLES EDWIN FRYE.
