B. SGARINGI. SHOE.
NQ. 529,964; Patented Nov. 27, 1894.
UNITED ST T S PATENT OFFICE.
BENIAMINO SCARINOI, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
SHOE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 529,964, dated November 27, 1894. Applica ion fi ed November 17, 1893. Serial No. 491,260. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern: 1
Be it known that I, BENIAMINO SOARINOI, a subject of the King of Italy, residing at Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoes,of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in the manufacture of shoes and more particularly to that form commonly known as the gaiter, and it has for its object to so make a blank for such shoes as not only to save material in the cutting, but to produce a blank which can be made into a shoe of great durability and cheapness, and one that will be neat and well shaped in appearance.
In the drawings:Figure 1, is a plan of my blank showing the way it is out. Fig. 2, is a side View of the upper made of this blank.
In forming my blank I take a piece of material of single thickness and out by any suitable means along the lines substantially as shown in the drawings, where it will be seen that Aindicates the vamp; B, the counters; C, the front; D, the backs. The counters, vamp, back and front of one side are cut in one piece as illustrated. while the back and counter of other side are cut from the same blank, utilizing the material which is usually cut out to form the goring opening E, as shown in Fig. 1. By so cutting this part of the shoe it will be seen that I waste a very small part of the material, only that indicated by the open spaces. The front for the other side of the shoe, corresponding to that shown in the drawings, is made of a separate piece similar in shape to O; and when the blank is folded for lasting, as in Fig. 2, the front will meet the vamp and its corresponding front on the lines R, S. Similarly the back D, with the counter B attached, which is separated from the main blank, will be joined in the upper to the edges F and T, Fig. 2. Since the back and front on one side are integral with the main body, there will be no seamsnecessary on that side, and to make the shoe appear symmetrical I preferably form imitation seams upon the opposite side of the shoe to correspond to the necessary seams used in securing the parts together.
In practice I have found that I effect a saving of about fifteen per cent by cutting the blank as above described and illustrated in the drawings; and that a shoe made from such a blank can be easily and readily shaped, presentinga neat appearancewhen complete, and is very durable, because of the reduction in the number of seams in its manufacture.
The shoe may be finished in any suitable manner, elastics being applied to the gore openings, and the sole and heel attached by any of the well known means.
I claim as my invention The herein described shoe upper made from a blank having the vamp, A, the back, front and counter of one side integral therewith, with the back and counter of the other side in a separate piece with the main body of the back out from front and back o the opposite side thereby forming the gore opening for that side, and having the corresponding front of an independent piece similarly shaped to the front, C, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
I BEN IAMINO SOARINOI.
