Be it known that I, LANDLIN RIEGER, of Ottoville, in the county of Putnam and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Shoe, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved shoe, which can be cheaply manufactured is durable, retains its shape when used, and at the same time is sufficiently flexible to insure comfort.

The invention consists principally of a shoe formed of a single piece of flexible material, and having its sides and quarters cramped up from the sole to unite the sides with the side edges of the vamp or tip, likewise cramped up from the front end of the sole.

The invention also consists of certain parts and details and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter, and then pointed out in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming apart of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improvement. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a sectional side elevation of the same. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the blank for forming the shoe, and Fig. 5 is a similar view of the'blank for the heel and stiffening-quarter.

The improved shoe is made of a single piece of flexible material, such as leather, and the material is out into a blank (shown in Fig. 4) to form the sole A, from the sides of which extend the sides 13 and B of the quarters O and G, of which the quarter C is provided with an extension D to form the counter.

From the front end of the sole A extends the vamp or tip E. The sides B and B, as well as the counters C and O, are cramped up from the sole A, as is plainly illustrated in Figs. 1 and 3, and the vamp or tip E is bent over the toe end of the shoe, to then be united by sewing or otherwise at its side edges E and E with the top edges B and B, respectively, of the sides B and B, respectively.

The inner end of the vamp or tip E may be scalloped or be left straight, as desired. The

side edges E and E are approximately V shaped in the blank to readily unite with the top edges B and B and similarly to give the desired rounding to the toe end of the shoe.

The extension D is united at its inner edge D", by sewing or otherwise, with the rear edge 0 of the quarter 0, and the rounded lower end D of the said extension is united to the V-shaped edge 0 at the rear end of the sole, and part of this lower end D is cramped up to form part of the sole, as Will be readily understood by reference to Fig. 8. The outer edge D is united by sewing to the rear edge 0 of the quarter C, so that this scam extends on one side, as indicated in Figs. 1 and 2. Thus the shoe is completed, but in order to reinforce the heel portion 1 provide a heelstrengthening counter F, made in one single piece and cramped up to form the heel F, and the strengthening-counter Fifitting upon the counter of the shoe already formed. The heel portion F is tacked or otherwise fastened to the sole A, while the side and top edge of the strengthening-counter F is sewed orotherwise fastened to the quarters C and G and the extension D.

It will be seen that a shoe made in this manner is very durable, can be cheaply manufactured, and is sufiiciently elastic to insure comfort and easy walking.

If desired, the quarters G and C may be provided with elastics G in the usual manner.

Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A shoe having its sides integral with the sole and provided with a vamp integral with the extreme front end of the sole said vamp being bent back over the toe of the shoe and secured to the top edges of the sides, substantially as described.

A shoe made of a single piece of flexible material and having its sides and quarters cramped up from the sole, the vamp and tip being likewise cramped up from the front end of the sole to be united at the side edges with the top edges of the sides, substantially as shown and described.

3. A shoe made of a single piece of flexible material and having its sides and quarters cramped up from the sole, the vamp and tip being likewise cramped up from the front end of the sole to be united at the side edges with the top edges of the sides, one of the quarters being formed with an extension cramped to form part of the sole and the counter of the shoe, substantially as shown and described.

4. A shoe comprising a sole, sides integral with the sole and cramped up from the same, quarters integral with the sole and sides, and likewise cramped up from the sole, a Vamp or tip integral with the front end of the sole and bent over and united at its side edges with the bent over and united at the side edges with the top edges of the said sides, an extension at one of the quarters to be united with the rear edges of the sole and quarters, the said extension forming the counter and part of the sole, and a heel'and strengthening-counter made in one single piece and cramped up and fastened to the heel, quarters and counter,

substantially as shown and described.

6. A shoe-blank,consisting of the sole A,the sides B B and quarters C 0 extending from the sides of the sole, the extension D extending from one quarter, and the tip or Vamp E projecting from the front end of the sole, substantially as described.
