UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
MARTIN YEAGLE, OF WATSONTOYVN, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF TO ERASTUS D. BARTO, OE SAME PLACE.
SHOE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No, 384,224, dated June 5, 1888.
Application filed April 12, 1888. Serial No.,270,40l.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARTIN YEAGLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at \Vatsoir town, in the county ofNorth and State ofPennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoes; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will euable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to shoes, and has for its object the production of a shoe especially adapted for lumbermeu and those exposed to wet and damp ground, and whose calliugnec essarily subjects the shoe to hard and rough usage, that will exclude the dampness, stand the strain and hard wear, and, withal, be comfortable, comparatively light, and neat in appearance.
The improvement consists in the novel featurcs, which hereinafter will be more fully described and claimed, and shown in the annexed drawings,in whichi Figure 1 is a perspective view of a shoe of my invention, and Fig. 2 a perspective view showing the parts detached and in their relative positions.
The vamp A and the quarters B and B are united by the usual side seams, a, and the quarters are united by the back seam, b. The quarter B is extended to form the flap 1), that overlaps the instep, and is provided with the (Xo model.)
tom and being'lasted to the sole, and the outer stay extending flush with the top of the quarters in the back and tapering to their front ends, as shown, where they are secured to the vamp and quarters by the side seams, a. This outer stay, F, extends from one side seam to the other, and is secured at its top edge to the quarters by the seam f, and is lasted to the sole at its bottom edge. The counter G is located between the quarters and the stay-piece F. The sole D and the heel H are of ordinary construction, and are lasted to the upper in the usual manner. The outer stay, F,and the quarters are further connected together by the two rivets m, that are located near the top of the quarters, one rivet being arranged on one side of the back seam and the other on the other side.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
The herein-shown and described shoe, composed of the vamp and the quarters secured together by back and side seams, the end of one quarter being extended to form a flap, the inner stay, E, the outer stay, F, of one piece and extending from one side seam to the other, and secured at its ends by the said side seams, the upper edge inclining from back to front, as shown, and secured to the quarters by a rowof stitching, and the lower edge being lasted in, the straps O G G and the corresponding straps, 0 0'0, provided with buckles, the straps Gand cbeing widened attheir lower ends to overlap the said side seams and lasted in, and the sole and the heel, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof Iaffix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MARTIN YEAGLE.
