SPECIFICATION formng part of Letters Patent No. 518,079, dated April 10, 1894.

.T aZZ whom it may concern- Be it known that I, BENIAMINO SOARINI, a subject of the King of Italy, residing at Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoes, of which the following is a s'pecfication.

The Object of my invention is to produce an improved shoe in which there is a saving of material in the cl 1tting out of the-blank and in the labor of making the shoe from such blank.

In the draWings: Figure 1, is a plan view of my blank. Fig. 2, is a side view of the blank with the different parts adjusted to show the outline of the shoe.

A, is the vamp, integral with the counters, B', B', the fronts, C', 0', and the upper borders, D', D'. 'In the form shown in Fig. 1, I make the two back strips, E', E', integral with the parts above mentioned, as olearly shown, so that when the shoe blank is placed upon the last, the parts can be easily and readily shaped to form the shoe; the sides or quarters are filled in with any suitable material, usually With a material Of a lighter grade than that Which forms the rest of the shoe, such as kangaroo, kid, or cloth. The strips, E', E', meet in the back portions of the counters, B', B'. Elastics may be applied as goring to the sides, and the shoe finished in the usual manuer of finishing gaiters, but I preferably finish the shoe as a laced shoe. In this case the two front strips which are shown connected at the top, will of course be severed, forming the two side flaps of such a shoe, which latter may be finished with any suitable lneans of lacing. Itwill be noticed that the counters and upper borders are separated from the portions forming the counters by the slits, S', S'. The back strips may be made as shown by severing these parts from the collnter by a slit, S, but this is not essential, as a single, separate strip may be used for this purpose, though I prefer to follow the plan illustrated in the drawings.

A shoe made according to my invention presents a neat. appearanoe, is well shaped and readily adapted to difierent shaped feet; and it is not only more durable, because of the reduction in the number of seams Ordinarily found in shoes of this type, but it can beL or-by other suitable means, and finished in any other suitable manner, which is not deemed necessary to be described in detail here, as all these matters will be readily understood by those skilled in the art, and may be done without departing from the substanoe of my invention.

I claim as my invention- 1. The herein described shoe blank, consisting of the vamp, A, the counters, B', B', the front strips, C', C', with the upper borders, D', D', at right angles thereto, both of said parts being severed from adjacent sides of the counters and' the whole forming an integral blank, substantially as described.

2. The herein described shoe blank consisting of the vamp, A, front strips, C', C', upper borders, D', D', and the back strips, E', E', cut from the counters, substantially as shown and described.
